DFW Tour Championship - Bridlewood Golf Club - 2018

Scott R Chilcutt, Flower Mound, TX (August 26, 2018) The Dallas / Fort Worth Tour, made its third trip back to Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound, TX. for this 2018 DFW Tour Championship.  Great conditions made for some low scoring, if the players could keep it in the short grass.  Light winds and low 90's, by the end of the round, helped to end the 2018 Points season in a special way.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  McKinney, TX, member Tim Williams, ended his day on Saturday shooting his best score of the year, tied at the top of the leaderboard with Nick Quast of Dallas, TX, both with a pair of birdies and +1 - 73's.  Mt. Pleasant, TX, resident Keith Strickland, looked to be out of the mix, four strokes back, but on Sunday things changed.  Strickland led the day making the turn, but could only get into the runner-up spot, with, Williams, struggling early on to drop to the third place honors opening to door for Quast to pick up his sixth championship on the season out of nine starts.

Senior Championship Flight:  Starting the final round on Sunday, five strokes back,  Keith McKelvy of Granbury, TX, carded three birdies over his final five holes, that would ultimately, force a playoff with Farmers Branch, TX, first-time player Todd Spence after Spence, with three birdies of his own on the final nine would double his final hole of the event.  Back to the course for the sudden death, McKelvy would prevail on the first extra hole, picking up his fifth win on the season.  First-round leader, Randall Grimes of Plano, TX, couldn't get anything to fall on his final nine holes, after making two birdies early on in the round, allowing Midland, TX, member Terry Rice to slide into a tie for the third-place finish.

Palmer Flight:  Rowlett, TX, player Gregory Haddon, with the help of seven birdies on the weekend, led the event wire to wire, to pick up his sixth win on tour and third of the season.  First-year member, David Stewart of Dallas, TX, carded his best finish of the season, to finish in the runner-up spot, with the pair of Reid Darnell of Southlake, TX, and Fort Worth, TX, member Kirk Boerner swapping identical scores over the rounds, to share the third place honors.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Mark Taylor of Coppell, TX, made up four strokes on his final nine holes of the event, with the help of an eagle on the par 5 - 16th to catch Wylie, TX, the first-round leader Jack Whitling.  Back to the course, the pair would keep up the stellar play, when on the second hole of the sudden death, Whitling would card a birdie, but fell one stroke short, after the second eagle of the day by Taylor, on the par 5 - 2nd for his third win of the season.  Tolar, TX, player John Williamson, tied up the Sunday low round to jump into the third-place finish.

Hogan Flight:  Argyle, TX, member, Greg Hawkins, led the field by four strokes heading to the final round, but it would take two birdies on Sunday, to hold off Richardson, TX, player Steve Boughnou, after his final three holes of the event, when Boughnou, scrapped back to within one.  In addition to his third win of the season and first on Texas soil, Hawkins, cashed in a bundle of loot over the weekend in timely birdies.  Rounding out the top three, Mikey Fletcher of Mineola, TX,  recorded his best finish of the season, catapulting him into a National Championship qualification in his first year on tour.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Scott Striegel, of Southlake, TX, took control of the front nine of the Bridlewood course over the weekend, to lead, wire to wire.  Striegel, with birdies on the par 5 - 2nd, both days with a combined front nine total of +2 over the weekend to pick up his ninth win on tour, and second of the season, but first since the 2018 opener at Champions Circle.   Seven strokes back, Houston, TX, member Jim Penn, making the trip to firm up his eligibility for the Senior National Championship, finished one stroke clear of Glynn Aldredge, of Fairview, TX, rounding out the top three.

Sarazen Flight:  Clearly experiencing an "out of body" type weekend, Burnie Rodgers of Haslet, TX, with six birdies on the weekend, seemed to be able to overcome his woes on the par 5 - 2nd, to lead the field for his twenty-first win on tour, second of the season, and second championship at Bridlewood Golf Club.  Three strokes back, Dallas, TX, player, Ronald Occenad, tried to keep pace, with the help of seven birdies over the Championship, but fell just a bit short, of the second place finish.  Rockwall, TX, member Bob Moreau, with a couple of birdies of his own over the weekend, would finish three strokes back of Occenad, rounding out the top three.

Jones Flight:  Haslet, TX, player Doyle Fleming, says he likes two-day events and it's evident, Fleming picked up an astounding thirty-eighth win on tour, thirteen of those coming at two-day, Major Championships, or Tour Championships.  Four strokes, back, Don Watson of Wichita Falls, TX, sidelined since May, jump back into the fray, to finish in the runner-up spot, with Garland, TX, member John Grimley, taking the final podium spot.

Snead Flight:  One stroke back, heading to the Sunday round, KC Montgomery of Fairview, TX, made the most of three birdies on the final eighteen, to pick up his sixth win of the season, and second in as many attempts.  Wylie, TX, player Kenne Thomas, with three birdies of his own on Sunday, finished just three strokes back for the second place spot, with Christopher Johnson of Duncanville, TX, rounding out the top three.

Arlington Championship - Tierra Verde - 2018

Scott R Chilcutt, Arlington, TX (August 5, 2018) The DFW Tour finished its point season of single day events at Tierra Verde Golf Club for the Arlington Championship on Sunday.

Early starting times and a cooling breeze helped erase the memories of the horrid heat at the Tribute for the many that experienced that round.  The swirling winds, along the tree-lined fairways, made for a challenging day for those that questioned the club selections.

The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $610, with Texas Tour events total raised to $20,730 contributed to the Foundation in 2018.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  One week separated from his third win in as many attempts at the Barton Creek Major Championship, Dallas Webster of Murphy, TX, found himself newly promoted to the Champ Flight.   Webster went -1 over the final seven holes to put himself in the mix, but it wasn't enough to fend off Lewisville, TX, player Jack Carlile.  Back to the par 4 - 10th for the sudden death, it would take Carlile two holes to finalize the Championship for his fifth win of the season and second in as many tries.  Two strokes back, Andrew Braun of Trophy Club, TX, Grand Prairie, TX player Larry Vannatta and Ryan Timmons of Fort Worth, TX, shared the final podium spot.
