DFW Tour Players Start the 2018 Season - Fort Worth Fall Championship

Scott R Chilcutt, Fort Worth, TX (October 7, 2017)  The DFW Tour opened it's 2018 points season at The Golf Club at Champions Circle. The club between Texas Motor Speedway on the North and Alliance Airport on the South played its normal havoc on the scoring, but this go-round was different.

Some course set up changes, along with 9 MPH Gusting to 20 MPH winds changed things dramatically.  Average scores over the 2017 edition, dropped 1.5 strokes, and while the #3 and #8 holes, played the hardest once again, #18 and #8 jumped into the most scorable holes, with 4 eagles and 23 birdies collectively between the two.

The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $380, bringing the Texas Tour local events total to $18,980 in contributions to the Foundation in 2017.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Trophy Club, TX, player Nick Quast may have taken the month of September off the AM Tour, but he didn't loose his touch.  Quast went out with four birdies on the front -2, gave a couple back coming to the clubhouse and finished even par for his twelfth win in his last fifteen attempts.  Nine strokes back, Jack Carlile of Lewisville, TX, looked to have things going early in the round but got on an over par train over his middle eight holes.  Finishing with a three-birdie -3 over the final five holes, Carlile grabbed the runner-up finish with Frisco, TX, Annis Annisuzzaman rounding out the top three.

Palmer Flight:  Dallas Webster, of Murphy, TX, made the most of a birdie on the par 4 - 7th, to pick up his sixth win on tour.  Of the six, Webster has now won his first event of the points season, three of his last four years, with two victories coming at Major Championships.  Two strokes back, Richardson, TX, first time player, Steve Boughnou, cleared third-place finisher, Scott Harper of Ranger, TX, by two strokes.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Starting the day the shotgun on the par 4 - 16th, Joseph Roy of Rockwall, TX, went - 3 early on after a birdie on the par 5 - 18th, added a birdie on the par 3 - 5th to finish out his first win as a Senior Palmer.  Roy promoted after the National Championship was a three-time winner in 2017, and now becomes an eleven-time winner on tour, including three Major Championships.  Playing a limited schedule on tour, Crawford, TX, member Kevin Vansau, with an eagle 3 on the par 5 - 18th, took home his best finish on tour in the runner-up spot, with David Lake of Irving, TX, making the most of two birdies on the day to round out the top three.

Hogan Flight:  Playing on tour since 2010, Amarillo, TX, member Tim Edwards held on to a slim one-stroke lead to pick up his second win and first since the 2013 Champions Circle.  Edwards off the lead for most of the round after starting on the par 4 - 14th, grabbed it with a birdie on the par 4 - 7th and finished one stroke clear of  Cory Welch of Fort Worth, TX.  Welch, a six-time winner, off the tour since 2015 while working overseas finished, one stroke clear of fellow Fort Worth, TX, player Jeff Workman, with three birdies on the day, taking home third.

Senior Hogan Flight:  2017 DFW Tour Player of The Year, Scott Striegel of Southlake, TX, picked up his first win as a Senior Hogan Flight member with an eagle 3 on the par 5 - 18th and a birdie on the par 4 8th.  Striegel, participated in 30 events during the 2017, point season, racking up five wins, including the Turning Stone Major Championship in Central New York before his promotion in early August.  Two strokes back,  Cisco, TX, player Manny Martinez, with a pair of birdies of his own, took home the runner-up honors with Jeff Gandy of Fort Worth, TX, filling the showplace finish.

Sarazen Flight:  Walter Albertson of Fort Worth, TX, a three-time winner in 2016, only played the Champions Circle event in 2017, where he took home the hardware.  Back in 2018, Albertson backed up the previous Championship with the help of a birdie on the par 5 - 11th for a four-stroke edge over Rockwall, TX, member Jeremy Nolan.   Nolan, with two birdies on his round, cleared first-time player Chad Isaacs of Keller, TX, by two strokes for the runner-up spot.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Longtime tour player, Rodney Wren, of Dallas, TX, sporting a new set of irons, made the best of a birdie on the par  4 - 8th for the Championship.  For Wren, it was his first victory on tour, by a single stroke over,  Rockwall, TX, player David Day.  Day, with two birdies of his own, finished just ahead of the trio of players, Doyle Fleming of Haslet, TX, Keller, TX, Nick Easen and Steve Killion of Sanger, TX, sharing the third-place finish.

Jones Flight:  Wylie, TX, member Jeff Ackerman, SR, became a seven-time winner on tour backing up his 2017 Championship at the Golf Club at Champions Circle.  Ackerman used two birdies on the round en route to a four-stroke victory over second place finisher, Steve Pearson of Plano, TX.  Four strokes back of Pearson, Don Watson of Wichita Falls, TX, and Dallas, TX resident Mike Lee, split the third-place finish.

Snead Flight:   Playing on tour since 2013, Christopher Johnson of Duncanville, TX, picked up his fifth win on tour.  Three strokes back, Fort Worth, TX, member Keith Huddleston with a birdie on the par 5 - 6th and Lewisville, TX, member Ron Hardy carding a birdie of his own on the par 4 - 8th  split the runner-up honors.
