Tierra Verde for the Arlington Championship

Scott R Chilcutt, Arlington, TX (July 24, 2017)  Off the tour since 2013, Tierre Verde Golf Club, when winter kill issues hampered the conditions, this years edition certainly didn't disappoint.  Owned and operated  by the City of Arlington, the first municipal golf course in the world to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary, the track clearly takes advantage of the natural beauty and terrain.

Steve Killion (Senior Hogan Flight) and, Walter Alberston (Jones Flight) were "Up for the Srixon Challenge".   Winning their respective flights playing a Srixon ball, they will get a dozen sent to them for the win. Walter Albertson picked up the Tournament Champion, presented by Carlisle's Engraving with a -8 - 64.  The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $400, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tour local events to $11,240 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  First year tour player, Travis Jones of Fort Worth, TX, and Flower Mound, TX, member David Wright swapped front nine / back nine scores to end up knotted in the top spot at the clubhouse.   Back out to the course for the sudden death playoff, the pair would both par the first, and it took a birdie on the par 5 - 2nd for Wright to pick up his first win on the season.  Jack Carlile of Lewisville, TX,  made a run at the end with three birdies in four holes, but gave them back on the final hole of the day with a triple, to share the third place honors with nearby Grand Prairie, TX, member Larry Vannatta.

Palmer Flight:  Michael Barr from Lewisville, TX, with three birdies on his round, would end the day tied up with Ranger, TX, player Scott Harper, with a birdie on his own. Back out to the course, it would be Barr that prevailed in the playoff to pick up his first win, in his first season on tour.  For Harper, it was his fourth runner up finish on the season to go with a win at the March Dye Classic @ Stonebridge.  John Sells of Crowley, TX, on hiatus from the tour since last summer, went even par on his front nine, to finish just one stroke out of the lead.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Bryan, TX, player Ricky Napper, made the best of a birdie on the par 4 - 10th for his first win on tour.  One stroke back, another Houston Tour traveler, Bruce Beakley, with three wins on the season, shared the runner up finish with Trophy Club, TX, member Jalil Daneshfar, carding his second runner up since his promotion from the Senior Hogan Flight in early July.

Hogan Flight:  Gabe Brisco of Mesquite, TX, grabbed his fourth win on the season, using three birdies on the round, for a four stroke victory.  Brisco, trending to an 8.0 Tournament Index, will get to play at least another month with the Hogan Flight.  Fort Worth, TX, resident Kirk Boerner, with four birdies on his round, had the second place finish to himself with a pair of players two strokes back in the show position.  Mel Goss of Terrell, TX, and Flower Mound, TX, member Ali Gazi, shared the third place honors.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Sanger, TX, player Steve Killion, played his back nine in -1 with a birdie on the par 3 - 11th, grabbing his Senior National Championship qualifying third win of the season.  One stroke back, Scott Harris of Fort Worth, a late fill in, with late night trailer towing duties, made the most of his round with two birdies on the day for his fifth runner up on the season, to go with one win.  Salado, TX, traveler Jerry Smith, off the tour for over a year, added a third place finish to his one win and T2 on three events on the year.

Sarazen Flight:  Oklahoma Tour player, Greg Holmes of Edmond, started a Sarazen / Senior Sarazen dominance on the day from players north of the Red River.  Holmes took, six strokes off his back nine to win by two strokes over San Antonio, TX, player CD Dunem.  Fort Worth, TX, member Wadsworth Jarrell and Dallas, TX, resident Mark Tylenda, shared the third place honors one stroke back of Dunem.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Jones, OK, player Stan Wilson, made it two for two on the Dallas Tour after winning the previous Monday at TPC Craig Ranch.  For Wilson, it was his third win on the season, all on Texas soil. The pair of Wichita Falls, TX, player Derek Drake and Michael Hardegree, shared the runner up finish with Chris Howl of nearby Arlington, TX, one stroke back.

Jones Flight:  Fort Worth, TX, player Walter Albertson, continued his winning ways with a two stroke victory, using three birdies coming to the clubhouse for his third victory on the season and second in as many attempts.  Joshua Tankersly of Fort Worth, TX, with a birdie of his own on the back finished in the runner up spot, with Houston Tour player, Jeff Gregory of Montgomery, TX, and Forth Worth, TX, Buddy Williams splitting the third place finish.

Snead Flight:  Bobby Ashcraft, of San Antonio, TX, followed a quad eight on the first hole with a birdie on the par 5 - 2nd to grab his second win on the season.  First year player, Timothy Geeslin of Arlington, TX, carded his best finish of the season, with Lewisville, TX, player Ron Hardy, rounding out the top three.

Dallas Tour Heats Up in Burleson - Southern Oaks Golf Club

Scott R Chilcutt,  Burleson, TX (July 2, 2016)  The Dallas Tour, headed back to Burleson, TX, for the second time in as many years over the 4th of July Weekend.

Southern Oaks Golf Club, busy since our last installment rebuilding bunkers, adding an event center, with many improvements to come. Very nice course conditions getting into the summer heat, were however, overshadowed by a couple of pin placements that were just down right evil.  While many players, came off those holes, proclaiming illegal hole positions, there really are no rules, regarding hole positions, but clearly the 16th and 18th holes, did not meet #3 under the FAQ's for Rule 16

While the selection of hole positions had the Tournament Committee and superintendent involvement, the staff pacing off those positions to actually cut the holes, missed the mark, making them very difficult for the entire field.

Jamie Sanson picked up the Tournament Champion, presented by Carlisle's Engraving with a net -9.   The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $350, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tour local events to $9,380 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Four strokes back, Ryan Timmons of Fort Worth, TX, grabbed his second runner up in as many tries on the season with the pair of Ovilla, TX, player Brad Bugg and David Wright of Flower Mound, TX, sharing the show place finish.

Palmer Flight:  Josh Greenawalt,  starting the day on the par 4 - 10th, tied for the lead making the turn, got into trouble midway through his final nine, but rebounded with two pars to finish the round with a one stroke advantage, for his first win on tour.  Traveling Florida member, Wendall Sheffield, of Crystal River, FL, used four birdies on his back nine, to draw a share of the second place finish with Tim Bush of Granbury, TX,

Hogan Flight:   Lewisville, TX, player Caleb Brown made birdie on his final hole of the day, Mel Goss of Terrell, TX, carded one of his own on his 17th hole, setting up a three way playoff with Jeff Workman of Fort Worth.  With the Tournament Index handicap revision taking place just hours before the event, it was anticipated that Workman would be promoted from the Sarazen Flight.  Back  to the par 5 - 1st, Goss went out on the first hole, and Brown would falter on the second, to hand off the flight Champion to Workman, his fifth win on the season.

Senior Hogan Flight:  In his first local event on tour, after starting the year with a couple of Majors under his belt, Ken Johnson of Carrollton, TX, picked up his first win, by two strokes with the help of three birdies on the round.  Fort Worth, TX, member Jeff Gandy, grabbed the runner up spot for his best finish on his second season with the tour.  Two strokes back of Gandy, Dave Hansen of Granbury, TX, and Fort Worth, TX, player Sal Torres, share the third place finish.

Sarazen Flight:  Sven Bock of Richardson, TX, and Fort Worth, TX, resident Wadsworth Jarrell, came to the scoring area, knotted in the top spot.  Back to the course, for the sudden death playoff, Bock would prevail for his third win on the points season, but first since February.  Mark Tylenda, of Dallas, TX, rounded out the top three, just one stroke back.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Breaking his record for best finish on tour, Jamie Sanson, picked up his second win on the season and fourteenth on tour, with a +2 - 74, lapping the field.  Eleven strokes back, Chris Howl of Arlington, TX, equaled his best finish, in the runner up spot, with four players just two strokes back.  Mark Donohue, of Lewisville, TX, Richland Hills, TX, member Tim Brown,  Tom Stockton of Grand Prairie, TX and Azle, TX, resident, Jim Wright, shared the third place finish.

Snead Flight:  Fort Worth, TX, player Douglas Pritchett, picked up his second win on the season, with five strokes to spare over Houston Tour traveler, Mike Murphy of Corrigan, TX.  Thomas Rauch, of Arlington, TX, finished just one stroke back of Murphy for his fourth third place finish in as many attempts.
