Grand Prairie Classic on the Dallas Tour

Scott R Chilcutt, Grand Prairie, TX (June 11, 2016) Tangle Ridge Golf Club, set aside in the past for opening day on the Dallas Tour because of early year course conditions, seemed jinxed with the weather.  Scheduling the event when the course was green,  the track didn't disappoint.  With the help of Thomas Devanna, the PGA Professional at the facility and gallons of paint, the course would play as designed.  Strategic pin placements, working around some iffy green conditions, would also contribute to a great day in Grand Prairie.

Bob Moreau picked up the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving with a net - 7, one stroke ahead of Jim Wright.   The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $320, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tour local events to $7,730 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Three strokes out of the lead making the turn, Tim Williams of McKinney, TX, turned it on coming to the clubhouse with two birdies and -2 on the back to pick up his second win on the season.  Trophy Club, TX, player Andrew Braun, followed a triple on the par 5 - 8th with a birdie on nine to get into a share of the runner up finish with Fort Worth, TX, member Ryan Timmons, taking advantage of two birdies on the day.

Palmer Flight:  Playing in his second event on tour, Irving, TX, member Taylor Hazelwood got into the swing of things quickly.  Three birdies on the day, proved to be just enough for his first win on tour, one stroke ahead of Ryan Cummings of Stillwater, OK.  Cummings with three birdies of his own on the round, doubled the par 4 - 15th keeping him out of the winners circle, just one stroke ahead of Houston Tour player, Aaron Brougher of Spring, TX, taking home the show place finish.

Hogan Flight:  The ladies took the spotlight in the Hogan flight on Saturday, but clearly not because of the yardage.  Playing at 6,000 yards on the round, Zoey Daneshfar of Trophy Club, TX, just days shy of 21 years old, grabbed her second win on tour and first in nearly a year. Local, Grand Prairie, TX, member Nancy Geihl, used some home cooking to finish with three birdies on the round, taking the scorecard playoff for the second place gift cards, with Rockwall, TX, player Joseph Roy splitting the runner up points.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Four players, unable to settle the score after 18, went back to the course for extra enjoyment and pressure.   Drew Keith of Dallas, TX, back on tour after a few years sitting out, Trophy Club, TX, perennial winner Jalil Danesfar,  Carrollton, TX, member Rick Swanson and Troy Moore of Dallas, TX, remounted for the finish.  Swanson out first on the par four 1st, the final trio would go to the par 4 - 3rd, where Keith would pick up his first win on the season with birdie.

Sarazen Flight:  Michael Hill of Rockwall, TX, a late entry made the best of his timing, picking up his second win on the season.  Fort Worth, TX, player Jeff Workman, controversially in the Sarazen Flight, but clearly eligible, with four wins in his last seven attempts, landed in the second place spot with Wadsworth Jarrell of Fort Worth, TX, and Richardson, TX, resident Sven Bock, sharing the runner up spot.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Rockwall, TX, player Bob Moreau, shot lights out to pick up his first win on tour and first victory since the August 2015 Open at Lantana.  Moreau, with two birdies on the day, edged out Jim Wright of Azle, TX and Simms, TX, player Billy Gilmore, with two birdies of his own, by two stokes.

Jones Flight:  Srinivas Pokunur of Frisco, TX, picked up his first win on two seasons on tour, with the help of two birdies on the round.   Trecia, Wood, also of Frisco, TX, made the best of a birdie on the par 5 - 13th hole for her best finish of the season, with Fort Worth, TX, member Joshua Tankersley, recently promoted from the Snead Flight rounding out the top three.

Senior Jones Flight:  Staying away from greens in regulation to work on his short game, Doyle Fleming, of Haslet, TX, carded his third win in as many attempts and fourth on the points season.  Jeff Ackerman, a winnner on the season, carded his third runner up finish, with Luis Dayer of North Richland Hills, TX, bringing home the final podium finish.

Snead Flight  Tom Reynolds of McKinney, TX, and Arlington, TX, player Don Freitag, needed more holes to make the championship official.  Out to the first hole, Reynolds commanded his first win on tour, with Thomas Rauch, of Arlington, TX rounding out the top three.

Memorial Weekend Championship at Pine Dunes

Scott R Chilcutt, Frankston, TX (May 29, 2016) Located Southeast of Dallas and straight North of Houston, Pine Dune Resort & Golf Club played host to the Memorial Weekend Championship on Sunday.  Highly touted by the media as perhaps one of the best public facilities to play in Texas, the layout didn't disappoint.

Players from all three Texas Tours, Arkansas and Oklahoma made the trek to the remote area just outside of Frankston, TX.  Continuing rains in Texas, led up to a beautiful, clear day, and while players had to traverse around water in the greens, it was the water in the jugs they were looking for.  Summer came, seemingly overnight with 80% humidity and 86 degrees, it was hot amongst the pine trees.

Phil Lewis (Jones Flight) was "Up for the Srixon Challenge".   Winning his prospective flight playing a Srixon ball, he will get a dozen sent to him for the win. Jorge Rodriguez picked up the Tournament Champion, presented by Carlisle's Engraving in a scorecard playoff over Mike Welch with a net - 4.   The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $390, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tour local events to $7,410 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Lewisville, TX, first year player, Jack Carlile, started the round with a birdie on the par 4 - 2nd, and made the turn with a slight, one stroke lead. Four over after the first five holes coming to the clubhouse, the Championship looked to be in jeopardy for Carlile, until he kicked it in gear closing out with four consecutive birdies for his first win on tour.  Four strokes back, with four birdies on the day, Neil Hennigan of Beaumont, TX, cleared his third runner up spot of the year, to go with one win, with Kingwood, TX, player Derek Husband, rounding out the top three with three birdies on his round.

Palmer Flight:  Clay Johnston of Lewisville, TX, secured a National Championship spot with his third win on the season, with the help of two birdies on the round.  Three strokes back, the pair of Michael Barr, also from Lewisville, TX with two birdies on the day, and Stillwater, OK, player Ryan Cummings, adding three birdies to his round, shared the runner up finish.

Hogan Flight:  One of a few players to make the double over the weekend, Jorge Rodriquez of Round Rock, TX,  fared much better on the Sunday round.  Rodriquez, with birdies on the par 5 - 5th and par 3 - 16th,  picked up his eleventh win on tour and second of the season after finishing T8 the day before.  Tyler, TX, member, Gary Lee, in his first start of the year, carded three birdies on the day, for the second place spot, with Al Campo, of Deer Park, TX, settling for the show place spot.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Coming off a T3, Senior National Championship qualification at the Triburan Amateur Major in Florida the previous weekend, Kevin Turner, of La Port, TX made the trip worth while, picking up his second win on the year and seventh on tour.  Baytown, TX, player Harold Jackson, made it a one / two Houston Tour punch for the second place finish, with Jalil Daneshfar of Trophy Club, TX, rounding out the top three.

Sarazen Flight:  Starting the day on the par 4 - 10th, Jeff Workman of Fort Worth, TX book-ended his front nine with birdies, added another on the par 4 - 2nd, and cruised to a four stroke win.  For Workman, it was this third win on the season, punching his ticket to the National Championship, and first on Texas soil.  Deer Park, TX, resident, Blake Barnes, used a birdie on the par 5 - 11th to finish in the runner up spot, with Wadsworth Jarrell of Fort Worth, with a birdie of his own on the day, taking home the third place honors.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Oklahoma Tour player, Bill Clark of Edmond, OK, talked into making the trip by some Dallas Tour players, led the non Dallas Tour podium sweep in the flight.  Clark, with a birdie on the par 5 - 18th, his ninth hole of the day, took just enough momentum making the turn to finish two strokes ahead of the pair of Spring, TX, Houston Tour members, Gary Gum and Chris Neeley, splitting the runner up spot.

Jones Flight:  Phil Lewis of San Antonio, TX, was the second of the day to take home the Championship in two attempts on the weekend.  Lewis, residing just miles south of the Saturday round at the Battle at Blanco, finished T10 on his first attempt, but made the drive Northeast some five hours worth his while.  Using birdies on the par 3 - 6th and par 4 - 10th, Lewis would pick up his first win of the season and third on tour.  Two strokes back, a pair of players from Montgomery, TX, and the Houston Tour, John Pickens and Joe Michetti, split the second place finish.

Snead Flight:  Settled in for the after round, hamburger buffet, the pair of Fort Worth, TX, players Mike Welch with a pair of birdies on his round and Walter Albertson had to eat fast and remount for the sudden death playoff.  Back to the par 4 - 1st, Welch would prevail, for his first win on tour. For Albertson, it was his second runner up finish in two attempts on tour.  Missing the playoff by just a single stroke, Kingwood, TX, member Ray Bednar, with a birdie on the par 4 - 2nd, rounded out the top three.
