Brutal in Burleson

Scott R Chilcutt, Burleson, TX (April 7, 2018)  April weather in Texas, gotta love it or hate it or both.  Friday practice rounds, played under near 80-degree temperatures, didn't set up the next day well.  25 MPH North sustained winds, blew in with a cold front that left the players more than frigid.  Add to that a rain like mist and it was just brutal.  But some unbelievable scores came out of those hardy enough to finish.  Overall scoring averages, increased from the beautiful weather the previous year at Hidden Creek, but astoundingly, only four strokes or so.

The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $540, bringing the Texas Tour events total to $6,760 contributed to the Foundation in 2018.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Second-time tour player, Chris Ransbottom of Cedar Hill, TX, was back one stroke making the turn, used a birdie on the par 4 - 12th and added an eagle three on the par 5 - 17th, to command a four-stroke advantage, his first win on tour.  Granbury, TX, member Sean Weiser, made the most of a birdie on the par 5 - 6th hole to finish in the runner-up spot, one stroke clear of Austin Hill of Dallas, TX rounding out the top three.

Palmer Flight:  After suffering playoff losses his last two outings, Dallas Webster of Murphy, TX, didn't let anyone get close to him.  Webster, just one stroke out of the lead making the turn, played the back nine, in +3 for his second win of the season and seventh on tour.  First-time.  Fort Worth, TX, tour player Chris Force, with a birdie on the par 5 - 6th, took home second, one stroke clear of Greg Digby of Lewisville, TX.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Playing in his second year on tour, Bedford, TX, player Keith Johnson, backed up his first win, his last time out to make it two.  Johnson, with two birdies on the round, cleared runner finisher, John Williamson of Tolar, TX, by five strokes.  Whitney, TX, member JD Price, made the most of a birdie on the par 5 - 6th to round out the top three.

Hogan Flight:  Corey Welch of Fort Worth, TX, recorded his tenth win on tour and second Championship in as many attempts after winning the March 10th, Frisco Lakes Challenge.   One stroke back, first-time local player, Billy Eubanks of Crowley, TX, took home the runner-up finish, with Killeen, TX, traveler, Randy Dorsey, taking home the showplace finish.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Garland, TX, member Jeff Feyerherm, started the day on a rough note, but rebounded with a birdie on the par 4 - 2nd, to pick up his second win on tour and first since March of 2013.  Two strokes back, Michael Cox of Rhome, TX, and Garland, TX, member Stephen Lamb, shared the runner-up finish.

Sarazen Flight:  Competing in a combined flight with a lack of Open Sarazen Flight, players, Preston Miller of Fort Worth, TX, picked up his fifth win on tour and first since the 2015 Red River Shootout Major Championship.  Four strokes back, Weatherford, TX, member Andre Fitzpatrick and David Holcomb of Dallas, TX, shared the runner-up finish.

Jones Flight:  Plano, TX, member, Steve Pearson picked up his first win since March 2015.  Pearson, cleared runner-up finisher, Tom Holman, of Van Alstyne, TX player by four strokes for his fourth win on tour.  Two strokes back of Holman, McKinney, TX, player Ray Tyczki, with a birdie on the par 3 - 8th and Douglas Pritchett of Fort Worth, TX, shared the third place finish.
