Sky Creek Ranch - Tarrant County Open

Scott R Chilcutt, Keller, TX (July 19, 2014)   Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club a great Robert Trent Jones layout in Keller, TX played host to the second Tarrant County Open on the Golf Channel AM Tour Dallas Tour. The event, the eleventh sell out with a waiting list, on the Dallas Tour,  would enjoy beautiful weather and excellent course conditions, 

Stan Harper, Snead Flight playing with the combined Jones Flight, picked up the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving.


RESULTS:

Championship Flight:   First time tour player, Kyle Miley of Royse City, TX went out in -2 with consecutive birdies on the par 5 - 7th and par 3 - 8th, added an eagle on the par 5 - 12th before ending his day at -1.  Three players finished three strokes back, with another first time player, Rik Wall of Plano, TX and Southlake, TX player Greg Polledri both with  four birdies on their day.  Guy Nickels from nearby Keller, TX finished his final four holes with three birdies to jump into a share of the runner up spot.

Palmer Flight:  David Wright of Flower Mound, TX started on the back nine and birdied his final hole, the par 4 - 9th to pick up his third win on the season in four attempts.  One stroke back, Ennis, TX first year player,  Michael Taylor carded his best finish on the season with three players locked in the third place finish.  Michael Fee from Mansfield, TX and Crowley, TX player John Sells both had two birdies on the back including their final hole, and Greg Hawkins of Argyle, TX playing his front nine in + 2, shared the third place honors.

Hogan Flight:  Roswell, NM first year player, Michael Hoyt started out a little slow, but finished his front nine with two birdies in the last three holes, added another at the par 4 - 13th to finish with his first win in his second attempt.  Coming off his first win on tour last week at the Cedar Park Challenge @ Twin Creeks      Darren Bufton of Bedford, TX birdied two of his first four holes to grab the runner up finish.  Recently promoted from the Sarazen Flight,  Fort Worth, TX player Jeff Workman rounded out the top three.

Senior Hogan Flight:   Traveling Hill Country Tour member, Doug Collins of Iraan, TX played just well enough to pick up his fourth win in six attempts on the points season.   With the help of a birdie on the par 5 - 16th, Collins edged out a pair knotted in the second place position by a stroke.  Playing in the same group, Dallas, TX member Bob Mulligan carded his second straight runner up finish and Michael Starks of Cleburne, TX birdied his final hole to share the runner up honors.

Sarazen Flight:  2013 National Champion in the Jones Flight, Nick Easen of Keller, TX picked up his first win as a Sarazen Flight player since his promotion.  Easen, birdied the final holes on both nine's en route to a one stroke advantage over Dallas, TX member Melvin Wilson III.  Wilson, a two time winner on the season and second in points edged closer to the top in the Sarazen flight with his runner up finish.  Wadsworth Jarrell of Fort Worth, birdied the par 5 -15th, to take the third place finish, his best in his first year on tour.

Senior Sarazen Flight:   Dale McFarland of Crowley, TX, already a Senior National Championship qualifier with a T-2 at the December 2013, Winter Championship at Innisbrook got an extra stamp of approval with his third win on the points season.  McFarland, carded two birdies on the day to hold off Houston Tour guest, Mark Kirby of Bridge City, TX.  Wichita Falls, TX resident, Michael Hardegree played just two strokes shy of the win to round out the top three.    

Jones Flight:   Frisco, TX player Jon Neff thought his third playoff appearance on the season had to be a charm, but in came Hill Country Tour member, Phil Lewis of San Antonio, TX.  On the first extra sudden death hole, Lewis recorded his first victory on tour, relegating Neff to his fifth runner up finish on the season.  Lloyd C Reid Jr of Dallas, TX,  Carrollton, TX player Scott Sears and normally playing out of the Snead Flight,  Stan Harper of Lake Leon, TX split the third place finish.

NEXT UP:

The Dallas Tour takes on players from around the country at the Major at Barton Creek for the Texas Masters on July 26th and 27th.

Moving back to Dallas the Las Colinas Championship will be contested on Monday, August 4th.   The event is sold out, but waiting list spots are still available.   


At the two day, Dallas Tour Championship on August 16th and 17th, Flight Champions will be crowned and is our last event of the points year before our National Championship break.  This event will not be limited so make sure you register before the August 8th deadline.

Championship at TPC Craig Ranch

Scott R Chilcutt, McKinney, TX (July 7, 2014)   TPC Craig Ranch played host for the fourth year to the tenth straight sellout on the Dallas Tour in 2014.  Nearly perfect course conditions and pleasant weather worked perfectly into the Monday outing.

Phillip Holt (Senior Hogan), Brent Nolan (Sarazen) and Stan Harper (Snead) all became multiple Srixon winners adding a dozen balls to there winnings.  Vaughn Jackson, picked up the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving.



RESULTS:


Championship Flight:  Andrew Morsinkhoff of Rockwall, TX birdied his final hole, the par 5 - 18th to force a playoff with Highland Village, TX member John Bohling.  Bohling, played the front nine in three under par with the help of four birdies, but ran into trouble mid way through the back nine.  Back to the course on the par 4 - 10th,  Bohling made it quick with a birdie on the first playoff hole for his third win of the season, punching his ticket to the National Championship. Tony Peppler of Dallas, carded two birdies on the back nine to round out the top three, three strokes back.


Palmer Flight:   Flower Mound, TX member, David Wright picked up his second win on the season in three attempts.  Wright made birdie at the par 4 - 3rd and par 5 -18th to stay one stroke clear of first time player Nick Cornelius of Arlington, TX.  Three strokes back of Cornelius the pair of Bart Slaughter of Dallas and Lewisville, TX resident, Greg Digby shared the third place honors. 


Hogan Flight:     Cory Welch of Fort Worth, TX had only four blemishes on his score card, added fourteen pars to win his first on the season and fifth on tour.  One stroke back, Dallas, TX member Jeff Blackwood fell victim to tee box confusion on the par 3 - 4th and the two stroke penalty landed him one stroke back of the win and one stroke ahead of third place finisher,  Shawn Whitaker of Lewisville, TX.


Senior Hogan Flight:  Haslet, TX member, Phillip Holt birdied his first hole of the day, the par 4 - 10th, and added one on the par 5 -18th for his fourth win on the season.   Three strokes back, Bud Surber of Edmond, OK had some confusion on proper unplayable lie relief on the par 4 - 6th and that would land him in the runner up spot.   Fellow Oklahoma Tour member Hank Chang of Lawton, OK rounded out the top three.


Sarazen Flight:   Brent Nolan of Rockwall, TX birdied his final hole of the day, the par 5 - 9th to pick up his second win in as many attempts.  Three strokes back,  Fort Worth, TX player Preston Miller solidified his lead in the Order of Merit Points standings with the runner up finish. Two strokes back of Miller, Joe Luman of Odessa, TX and San Antonio, TX player Carlos Cruz split the third place honors.


Senior Sarazen Flight:  Birdie on the par 4 - 10th in a playoff wins the second extra hole contest of the day. But it took more than just the birdie on the sudden death playoff for Oklahoma Tour member,  Stan Wilson of Jones, OK to grab his third win on the season.  Wilson, birdied his final two holes, the par 3 - 17th and par 5 - 18th to force the extra hole affair with Rick Allaire of Dallas.  It was Allaire's fourth runner up finish on the season including a T2 at the Bayou Classic at Lake Charles Major in April.  One stroke back,  Crowley, TX player Dale McFarland finished out the top three.


Jones Flight:   Sporting a new beard, Vaughn Jackson of Euless, TX finished his last three holes with birdies, added to two on his front side to take a seven stroke victory, his first of the season and third on tour. Oklahoma Tour traveler, Curtis Sinclair from Amarillo, TX carded the runner up finish two strokes ahead of the pair of  Dallas, TX member Lloyd C Reid Jr and Tom Stockton of Euless, TX knotted in the show position.


Snead Flight:  Stan Harper of Lake Leon, TX made it three for three, winning his last three outings and solidifying a Senior National Championship invitation. Harper made birdie on the par 5 - 9th and par 3 - 15th taking a three stroke advantage over runner up finisher Doyle Fleming of Haslet, TX.  Tulsa, OK traveler William Hughes finished two strokes back of Fleming to round out the top three.
