So Long Bear Creek - DFW Tour

Scott R Chilcutt, Euless, TX (June 16, 2018)  Bear Creek Golf Club, virtually on the grounds of the DFW International Airport, last hosted an event on the Golf Channel AM Tour in May of 2012.  We opted out of further play as the previous management simply wasn't keeping up with course and facility maintenance.

In comes, a new management company and we decided to give it another try.  While the group has done wonders for the conditions, clearly tee sheet and course marshaling management does not take precedence over filling up the tee sheet.  And that's what they did, fill up every crack and crevice before our first groups started.  As I told, the staff early on in the day and since, we were destined for failure, and that's on me.  While we can't control what happens in front of us, we can control when and where we book events, so that we have a chance of a successful event.  Obviously, it's not going to happen again at Bear Creek.

The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $610, with Texas Tour events total raised to $15,435 contributed to the Foundation in 2018.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  With a double and two bogies on the front nine, Nick Quast of Trophy Club, TX, seemed to be out of his element, but did just enough coming to the clubhouse for the Championship.  Quast, with the help of a birdie on the par 5 - 15th, picked up his third win in as many attempts, and fourth of the season.  One stroke back, Bedford, TX, member Willie Roach, battling back issues, carded three birdies on his round to grab the second place finish, two strokes clear of  Michael Barr of Lewisville, TX.  Barr, recorded the low back nine of the flight with the help of three birdies, coming to the clubhouse.

Palmer Flight:  Fort Worth, TX, member Chris Force, made the turn at +1, with a four-stroke advantage and needed every one of those strokes to stand on top of the podium for the first time on tour.  Scott Harper of Ranger, TX, with two birdies on his day, missed out of a playoff position by just a stroke.  With the help of two birdies on his card, Murphy, TX, player Dallas Webster, shared the third place finish with Ali Gazi, of Flower Mound, TX.

Senior Palmer Flight:   Gabriel Brisco, of Mesquite, TX, looked to have everything under control at the turn, with a +1 - 37 with a birdie on the par 4 -1st, but then it got close.  Three strokes back, John Williamson of Tolar, TX, hit the tenth hole, three strokes back, despite two birdies on the opening nine.  Williamson added two more on the back and looked to be in catbirds seat until the par 4 - 18th, where he slipped back forcing a sudden-death playoff.  Back to the par 4 - 4th, Brisco would prevail, for his first win since the 2016 season, prior to his promotion from the Hogan Flight and thirteenth on tour.  Trophy Club, TX, resident, Jalil Daneshfar, with two birdies coming to the clubhouse, rounded out the top three.

Hogan Flight:  Killeen, TX, traveler, Randy Dorsey, picked up his third win on tour and second of the season.  Dorsey,  three strokes clear making the turn, added a couple of birdies on the back nine, to build the lead to four strokes over, Forest Woods of Bedford, TX.  Woods, playing in his first year on tour, claimed a runner-up spot, his first time out, got back to the top groups, with the help of two birdies coming to the clubhouse.  McKinney, TX, player Chet Bays, with three birdies on his card, finished one stroke back of Woods, for the third-place finish.

Senior Hogan Flight:   Houston Tour traveler Jeff Green of Coldspring, TX, recorded his seventh win of the season and eight's on tour.  Green, with two birdies on his round, including the final hole par 4 - 18th, had a four-stroke lead making the turn over Granbury, TX, member Dave Hanson.  Hanson, with two birdies on the back nine, surged to the top, but finished two strokes back, two strokes ahead of a trio of players.  Glynn Aldredge of Fairview, TX, Carrolton, TX, player Ken Johnson, both with a birdie on the par 3 -17th, shared the third-place finish, with Myles Gallemore, of Irving, TX.

Sarazen Flight:  Down by strokes at the halfway point, Windhorst, TX, resident Casey Reynolds,  made it up on the back nine, with the help of a birdie on the par 3 - 17th to pick up his first win on tour.  One stroke back, Detroit Tour traveler, Dayne Hoffman of Grand Rapids, MI, with an eagle on the par 5 - 10th, carded his second runner-up finish in as many attempts, with Dallas, TX, player Franko Orozco, rounding out the top three, two strokes back.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Dallas, TX, resident, Rodney Wren, picked up his Senior National Championship qualifying third win of the season.  Wren, made the turn even with Jerry Emmons, of Granbury, TX, and made the most of birdies on the par 4 - 12th for a one-stroke victory.  For Emmons, it was his third runner-up on the season and fifth on tour. One stroke out of the second place finish, Crowley, TX, player Dale McFarland, rounded out the top three, for his best finish of the season.

Jones Flight:  Playing in his first year on tour, Robert Valera of Copper Canyon, TX,  cleared his best outing by ten strokes to pick up his first win.  Valera, with a pair of birdies going out,  held on to a three-stroke advantage making the turn for a two-stroke victory, over McKinney, TX, resident Ray Tyczki.  Tyczki, with two birdies of his own on the round, cleared the trio of Doyle Fleming of Haslet, TX, Dallas, TX member David Farmer, JR and Douglas Pritchett, of Fort Worth, TX, sharing the third place finish.

Snead Flight:  Down by three strokes making the turn, Zane Latham of Valley View, TX, recorded a birdie on the par 5 - 15th to pick up his fifth win on the season.  Traveling, Midland, TX, player Paul Ray, finished out of the win, three strokes clear of Ron Hardy of Lewisville, TX, rounding out the top three.

RiverChase Hosts the Coppell Open

Scott R Chilcutt, Coppell, TX (June 2, 2018)  DFW Tour players took on the River Chase Golf Club in Coppell, TX for the Coppell Open on Saturday.  Back on the schedule after flooding along the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in 2016, caused potential schedule changes, this round had no problems with water.

The heat was a different story, while we are yet to be officially in Summer, it looks like we went directly from Winter into Summer.  Scores came in relatively low, with smooth rolling greens and favorable scoring conditions.

The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $550, bringing the Texas Tour events total to $13,040 contributed to the Foundation in 2018.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Fort Worth, TX, member Ryan Timmons, went minus two after four holes, but finished the front nine, one-stroke back.  Coming to the clubhouse, Timmons, would keep the card clean, finishing the round +3 for his first win on tour.  Randall Grimes of Plano, TX, and Grand Prairie, TX player Larry Vannatta, both with three birdies on the day, shared the runner-up honors one stroke back.

Palmer Flight:  Disgusted with his streak of playoff requiring finishes, Dallas Webster of Murphy, TX, made sure that wouldn't be an issue on this round.  Webster, with five birdies on the round, finished -1 - 71 for his fourth win of the season and ninth Championship on tour. A pair on Seniors, finished behind Webster, with Brian Surles of Argyle, TX, playing in his third event, taking the runner-up spot, with Mesquite, TX, member Gabriel Brisco, and two consecutive birdies on the front, rounding out the top three.

Hogan Flight:  Killeen, TX, traveler Randy Dorsey, nearly lapped the field, with the help of three birdies on his round, to finish, with a nine-stroke advantage, for his first win of the season and second win on tour.  Mike Castleberry of McKinney, TX, and Fort Worth, TX, member Cory Welch, both with birdies on their cards, shared the runner-up finish.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Houston Tour member, Jeff Green of Coldspring, TX, seems to like playing in the DFW area.  Green, with two birdies on his round, picked up his fifth win of the season and second in Dallas, and sixth win on tour.  Two strokes back, Glynn Aldredge of Fairview, TX, a former Houston Tour member himself, carded his second runner-up of the season to go along with a win at Frisco Lakes earlier in the spring.  Rounding out the top three, Bullard, TX, first-year player Court Pontiff, equaled his best finish from Waterchase earlier in the season.

Sarazen Flight:  Back to the course, after three players where unable to settle the score in regulation, Dallas, TX, player Franko Orozco would prevail on the first sudden-death playoff hole.  David Holcomb, with an eagle on the par 5 - 4th and Greenville, TX, member Michael Hill would split the runner-up finish.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Rhome, TX, player Mike Cox, would make a birdie on the par 4 -2nd and a par on his final hole of the day, proving to be just enough for his first win on tour.  One stroke back, the trio of James Pace of Burleson, TX, and Tom Stockton of Grand Prairie, TX, both with two birdies on the round, along with Rockwall, TX, member Bob Moreau, with a birdie of his own, would share the runner-up finish.

Jones Flight:  Douglas Pritchett of Fort Worth, TX, took a three-stroke lead to the back nine but came back to the field to end up in a sudden-death playoff with David Farmer, JR, of Dallas, TX.  The pair, both with birdies on the round, went back to the par 4 - 10th, where they both made three's the first time around when Pritchett would prevail for the win, his first win of the season and fourteenth on tour.  McKinney, TX, player Ray Tycki, a perennial winner on the season finished just two strokes back for the third-place finish.

Snead Flight:  One stroke back making the turn, Keith Huddleston of Fort Worth, TX, bested the field on his back nine, to pick up his first win of the season and second on tour.  Two strokes back, Irving, TX, player Fabio Mazzoli, finished in the runner-up spot, with Christopher Johnson of Duncanville, TX, one stroke back of second, with the help of a birdie on the par 3 - 8th.
