Champions Crowned - Fall Championship at Champions Circle

Scott R Chilcutt,  Fort Worth, TX (November 11, 2012)  Just one week after the stars of Nascar made their appearance at the Texas Motor Speedway for the AAA Texas 500 the Dallas Tour took on Champions Circle just south of the famed track for the Fall Championship.

90 players with travelers from the Atlanta, Hill Country, Houston and Oklahoma tours battled the elements to complete the last local event of the calendar year on the Dallas Tour.Just as fast as the stock car group blew out of town the south winds kicked up for the entire week.  Overnight muggy warm conditions gave way to a big gust northerly that brought with it fierce and cold north winds for the beginning of the round.  Players with early tee times got most of the three seasons before the winds and showers subsided.

Results:

Championship Flight:  Kyle Lewie from Waco, TX nixed his plans to play the Hill Country Tour event on Saturday after his Aggies were scheduled to play the Crimson Tide during an early afternoon game and made the change to Fort Worth.  He and traveling partner Chris Daniluck of Boerne, TX made the best of the change with a one two finish.  And what a weekend it was,  Lewie's team knocked off #1 Alabama and Kyle picked up his first win on tour, with four birdies, including his final hole of the event that sealed the deal.  Daniluck went out at one under par with three birdies on the front nine, but doubled the last to fall one stroke short of the win, but stayed one stroke clear of third place finisher Tony Peppler of Dallas.

Palmer Flight:  Coppell, TX member Adrian DelaGarza made it four tour wins on the Golf Channel Am Tour with a +2 - 74, the best round of the day, seven strokes ahead of nearest competitor, newcomer John Padilla of Arlington, TX.  Padilla recorded four birdies on the day, but ran into trouble mid round to keep him out of contention.  Randy Sellers of Lewisville, TX rounded out the top three after winning at the October Border War at Rock Creek Resort event.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Sean Fenton from Fort Worth, TX and Tulsa, OK member Roland Lewis, both birdied the final hole to force extra holes.  Lewis went out in 42, Fenton in 39, but both tied it up after thirteen and then they matched it up stroke for stroke.  At the scorers table the two hadn't finished the contest so they went back out for more, where Fenton would prevail.  Mark Taylor of Lewisville, TX a winner at the Border War at Rock Creek Resort finished one stroke back to finish in the show position.

Hogan Flight:  Amarillo, TX traveler, Tim Edwards had his best finish at a Golf Channel Am Tour event during the 2010 Texas Star Shoot Out  with a T3.  When he and Oklahoma Tour member Jeffrey Banner from Lawton, OK went out in 41, 42 respectively it was obvious the boys residing in windy areas had battled through the early round gusts.  Two back nine birdies including the finishing hole would be enough for Edwards to pick up his first tour win, two strokes ahead of Banner.  Atlanta Tour member Cory Welch from Smyrna, GA finished with two straight birdies to salvage a third place spot, five strokes back of Banner.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Jalil DaneshFar of Trophy Club, TX birdied the par four - eigth hole to get things back on track after a tough start.  Two strokes back of Mansfield, TX Gregory Stairs after nine holes, DaneshFar added another birdie on the fourteenth hole to pick up his fourth win on tour by a single stroke over Stairs firmly in the second spot. Bruce Beakley from Houston, TX, making his second event on his weekend double after playing on the Hill Country Tour on Saturday, finished tied in the third spot with Shawn Whitaker from Lewisville, playing in his first Senior Flight event.

Sarazen Flight:  Tyler, TX resident, Gary Lee shot the best round of his Golf Channel Am Tour career to pick up his first win.  Lee finished the final four holes at one under par with three birdies on the day to best,  Melvin Wilson III of Dallas, TX by four strokes. Wilson birdied his final hole to take a one stroke advantage over third place finisher, Rockwall, TX member Joseph Roy.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Patrick Gutridge from Hurst, TX recorded his fifth win on tour and first since the July 2011 The Clash @ Tour 18.  Gutridge carded two birdies on the day to win the flight by a stroke with a birdie four on the par five - 18th. One stroke back, Walter White from Monroe, LA and Jones, OK player Stan Wilson shared the second place honors. Ken Benjamin of Grand Prairie, TX and Frisco, TX member Jamie Sansom tied for the fourth spot.

Jones Flight:  Allen, TX newcomer Shawn Privat picked up his first win on tour, less than a month after his runner up finish in his first outing at the Border War at Rock Creek Resort.  Privat took advantage of three birdies on the day to overcome a couple of tough holes to finish two strokes ahead of Garrett Tidman from Little Elm.  In his last event as a mid-am, Keith Bruce from Gordonville, TX followed up his Border War win with the third place finish.

Senior Jones Flight:  Mike Logsdon from Wylie, TX sporting his American Flag shirt for Veterans Day, dominated, seven strokes ahead of second place finisher, Lewisville, TX member Ron Hardy. Logsdon had birdies on the first and fifteenth holes to pick up his third win on tour.  Tom Stockton from Euless, TX rounded out the top three.

Snead Flight:  Parker, TX resident Dion Casto started out with a birdie on the first hole and never looked back picking up his second tour win by nine strokes over Mike Adcock from Saginaw, TX.  Casto's 44 on the front held a six stroke advantage and he just kept adding on.  Don Freitag from Arlington, TX a winner in his last two local events before the National Championships finished in the third spot.

Senior Snead Flight:  Doyle Fleming of nearby Haslet, TX cashed in on his fifth win on tour and second in as many tries seven strokes ahead of Oklahoma Tour traveler, Rick Henthorn of Yukon, OK.  Hill Country Tour member, Dwain Smith of Cedar Park, TX completed his round six strokes back in third position.
