Sarazen Flight:  Making the start for a whopping 25th time on the season, Scott Striegel of Southlake, TX, made birdie on the par 4 - 4th that proved to be just enough for a two-stroke victory. For Striegle it was his fourth win of the season, to go with four top three Major Championship Finishes.  Runner-up finisher, Bedford, TX, member Darren Bufton, carded a birdie on the par 5 - 3rd for his third runner-up finish on the year to go with five wins including the Major Championship at Blackwolf Run.  Fort Worth, TX, member Joshua Tankersly, with a birdie of his own on the par 5 - 3rd, rounded out the top three.

No Rain at Tierra Verde - Arlington Championship

Scott R Chilcutt, Arlington, TX (June 4, 2017)  Back another certified Audubon Signature Sanctuary course on the Texas Tours.   Tierra Verde, one of eight on the 2017 schedule in the state is owned and operated by the City of Arlington, and was the first municipal golf course in the world to be certified.

With the weather forecasted for Sunday, it was very questionable if the event would be held at all, but low and behold the storms held off until we loaded the trailer after all the awards were disbursed.  The weather leading up the event, with torrential rains, made this go round of the Arlington Championship more challenging in some ways, but certainly easier in others.  Cart paths only, led to a lot of walking, but take all the bunkers out of play because they were washed out and filled with water, gave some needed relief.

The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $580, bringing the Texas Tour local events total to $11,290 in contributions to the Foundation in 2017.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Granbury, TX, player Eric Anderson started the day hot, with birdies on his two opening holes.  Anderson went on to add three more on the round, finishing with an even-par 72 for his fifth win on Tour and first since the 2015 season.  Eric Bugg of Ovilla, TX, finished one stroke back with two birdies starting the back nine, with Plano, TX, member Preston Standley, and two birdies of his own, rounding out the top three.

Palmer Flight:  John Padilla of Fort Worth, TX, starting on the back nine, played his first nine holes in even par, just enough to pickup up his second win on tour and first of the season.  Padilla with two birdies on his round cleared Fort Worth, TX, member Kirk Boerner, newly promoted to the Palmer Flight, by two strokes.  Boerner matched Michael Barr of Lewisville, TX, with a birdie on their first hole of the day, the par 4 - 10th to finish one stroke ahead of Barr.

Senior Palmer Flight:  South Africa Native, Nic Linde now residing in Keller, TX, has become accustomed to winning, picking up his Senior National Championship qualifying third win on the Tour all coming this season.  Linde, turned a two-stroke deficit after nine holes, into a three-stroke win after posting -2 - 34 on the back nine with three birdies.  Oklahoma Tour traveler, Michael Foster of Catoosa, OK, recorded his fourth runner-up finish in eight attempts on Tour, in his first season of play.  Rounding out the top three, partners in crime, Keller, TX, member Ken Dyke and Sean Fenton of Fort Worth, TX, shared the third place honors.

Hogan Flight:  Irving, TX, resident Ryan Sosnowski, picked up his second win, in his first year on tour, with the help of two birdies on the day.  Also playing in his first year on tour, Aaron Sisk of Fort Worth, TX, finished two strokes back for his second runner-up finish in five attempts.   Two-time winner of the season, Richardson, TX player Sven Bock, finished three strokes out of the win, with a birdie on the par 4 - 1st.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Bob Mulligan, of Dallas, TX, became a four-time winner on Tour, with two coming in the 2017 points season.  Back two strokes making the turn, Mulligan carded two birdies coming to the clubhouse for a one-stroke victory over traveling Gulf Coast Tour player Mark Wiley of Florence, MS.  Wiley, thought to have the championship tied up going to the 18th hole, ran into trouble on the final frame, but still finished one stroke clear of Drew Keith of Dallas, TX, in third place.

Sarazen Flight:   Starting the day on the tenth hole, Rockwall, TX, resident David Hickman, carded birdies on two of his first four holes, to take a one-stroke lead to the back.  That lead grew after eighteen holes were completed, giving Hickman his seventh win on Tour and first since the 2015 season.  Three strokes back, Alexus Clary of Sunnyvale, TX,  played her back nine, two strokes better than the front to clear a pair of players tied for third place by one stroke.  Ennis, TX, player Justyn Wilder, off the tour since, 2011 and Nick Eason of Keller, TX, split the third place honors.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  On Tour since 2009 and before, lefty, Bill Clark of Bullard, TX,  stood on the podium for his first time this season.  For Clark, starting out on the San Antonio / Austin Tour, now known as the Hill Country Tour, shifting to Oklahoma and now a member of the Dallas Tour Clark has amassed twelve wins.  One stroke back, runner-up went to, Haslet, TX, resident Doyle Fleming, to go along with his three wins on the season,  One stroke back of Fleming, Jim Wright of Azle, TX, carded three birdies on the day to record his best finish of the year.

Jones Flight:  Down three strokes making the turn after starting the day on the par 4 - 10th, Jeff Ackerman, SR of Wylie, TX, picked up the Championship but not until the final hole.  Dallas, TX, player Ronald Occenad looked to have things sewn up when a triple on the par 4-9th left him one out of the lead.  For Ackerman, SR, it is his fifth win of the season and sixth on tour.  Occenad a winner his last time out, in his first season on Tour, finished three strokes clear of Scott Sears of Carrollton, TX rounding out the top three.

Snead Flight:  Jason Jenniges, of Weatherford, TX, carded a birdie on the par 5 - 8th to pick up his third win on Tour and first win since the 2015 season.  Houston Tour traveler, Mike Lane of Katy, TX, with a birdie of his own on the par 4 -17th finished in the runner-up spot, with Arlington, TX, member, Don Freitag and Major Champion during the National Preview at Mission Hills, his last time out taking the show place finish.
