Dallas Tour Championship - Bridlewood - 2016

Scott R Chilcutt, Flower Mound, TX (August 28,2016)  After a three year stint finishing off the points year at The Tribute on the Dallas Tour, plans changed when it was clear that shoddy tee sheet management and a priority to get out public play, would be the theme of the weekend.  Step in, Bridlewood, located just west of the prior venue in Flower Mound, TX.

A shaky start on Saturday morning, with some similar split tee - tee sheet issues, and in comes an aggressive sales person.  Player experience trumped out the daily round numbers, to not only save the day and weekend, but ensure another go of it on the Dallas Tour.

Bridlewood Golf Club, on the tour schedule for some time, has never been associated as an easy track.  Add to it recent rains that, while making the course lush and pleasing to the eye, created some havoc for members that couldn't keep it in the short grass.  You couldn't tell it from some of the scores, however.  Coming off a full season of play, the creme rose to the top, with some personal best rounds on tour.

Jalil Danesfar (Senior Palmer Flight) was "Up for the Srixon Challenge".   Winning his respective flight playing a Srixon ball, and will get a dozen sent to him for the win. Denver Roden picked up the Tournament Champion, presented by Carlisle's Engraving with a two day total of -13 - 131. The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $540, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tour local events to $13,480 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Trophy Club, TX, member Nick Quast put together a pair of 37's on Saturday with four birdies to lead the field by two stokes after the first round.  With four players lurking just two strokes back, it would take some stellar play on Sunday to cap off the championship.  And stellar it was, carding another four birdies on the final round, this time with only a single bogie, Quast took five strokes off, for a -3 - 69 for his fifth win in only seven attempts on the season.

Andrew Braun, also from Trophy Club, TX, one of those players two strokes back, coming to the final round, posted a -1 - 71 taking five strokes off his Saturday finish with two birdies, capturing the low Senior Championship trophy and ensuring a Senior National Championship invite.  Flower Mound, TX, member David Wright finished in the third spot four strokes out of the runner up finish.

Palmer Flight:  Coming off an August 2nd promotion to the Palmer Flight, Rockwall, TX, member Joseph Roy, carded four birdies on Saturday for the flight low round, +2 - 74.  Second time tour player, Jonathan Cook of Burleson, TX, with three birdies of his own on Saturday, joined Roy in the final pairing on Sunday just three strokes back.  Sunday, was a different story altogether, with the other two players in the final group faltering and opening the door to the field, it looked contagious.  Picking up key birdies on his first nine of the final round at the par 4 - 14th and par 5 - 16th, Cook would get things under control, until going +8 on his final five holes of the event, but held on to the victory.  Roy finished one stroke out of the championship for a strong player of the year endorsement. Michael Barr of Lewisville, TX, coming from five strokes back on Saturday to round out the top three on the weekend.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Hill Country Tour player, Thomas Pipes of Odessa, TX, made the trip to Dallas to fill in his eligibility for the Senior National Championship.  Pipe, a runner up at The Texas Masters at Barton Creek, needed two local rounds to punch his ticket and made good use of the trip, leading the field after day one.  Four strokes out of the lead off the first tee on Sunday, Trophy Club, TX, player Jalil Danesfar, with a July Journey to Better Promotion, finished his round six strokes better, with three birdies on the day forcing extra holes with Pipes.  Back to the par 4 - 10th, both would make pars, sending them to the par 4 - 11th where Daneshfar would pick up his seventh win on the season and second as a Senior Palmer.  JD Price of Whitney, TX, would put together a pair of 79's to grab the third place honors.

Hogan Flight:  In his first year on tour, Chas Levene of Lewisville, TX, would record his first sub 80 round to share the eighteen hole lead with Houston, TX, traveler Mike Karlin.  While Levene, Karlin, and Mesquite, TX, player Gabe Brisco were fighting it out in the final pairing, carding seven birdies between the three, Round Rock, TX, member Jorge Rodriguez, put together a low flight round on Sunday to snatch the championship by a stroke.  Karlin and Brisco shared the runner up honors, and along with Rodriquez ensured a Journey to Better Promotion to the Palmer Flight for the National Championship and 2017 points season.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Starting on the tenth hole on Saturday, visiting Phoenix, AZ Tour player Steven Barron made the turn with consecutive birdies on the par 4 - 1st and par 5 - 2nd.  Finishing the back nine in even par, Barron would share the over night lead with Rick Swanson of Carrollton, TX, with three birdies on the day.  Back to the final round, Swanson would make three birdies on the round, but fall back to the field, finishing T4, opening the door for Barron to pick up his second win on the season.  Cleburne, TX, member Michael Starks, went out in +2 on Sunday to secure his runner up finish, with Denver Roden of Irving, TX, rounding out the top three.

Sarazen Flight:  Bedford, TX, resident Darren Bufton, shot a low flight round, +3 - 75 on Saturday to build a four stroke advantage over a pair of players.  Sunday, Bufton would keep pace and even extend the lead going out, but ran into troubles on his final nine, opening the door for a charging Sven Bock of Richardson, TX, coming to the clubhouse in +1.  Back to the course for the sudden death playoff, it would take three frames for the pair to settle the score, when Bock made par on the par - 3 - 12th for his fifth Championship of the year, and second Tour Championship of the season after winning in the Hill Country.  Two strokes back of the pair, Rockwall, TX, David Hickman with a career low round on Saturday, carded four birdies on the weekend for the third place finish.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Wichita Falls, TX, member Michael Hardegree and Manny Martinez of Cisco, TX, led the way at the end of the first round, with five birdies between the two, both going +3 - 75.  Starting the final round on the back nine, Hardegree would take some time to get in the groove after a mishap getting into his hotel room that morning, but followed with a pair of birdies to stay even with Martinez after 27 holes. Back and forth through the first four holes of the back nine, it would finally move into the Martinez corner mid way through the back for Manny to win his first event on the season.  Dallas, TX, resident Rick Allaire, would charge to share the runner up spot with Hardegree, with the help of three birdies on the final round.

Jones Flight:  The term "Steady Eddie" is not normally associated with Burnie Rodgers of Haslet, TX, but on this weekend found a new home.  Rodgers, one stroke out of the eighteen hole lead, with a pair of birdies, added another pair of 41's to pick up his first championship on the season.  Three strokes back, traveling Houston, TX, member Artis Stewart with a pair of birdies followed his Tour Championship win at Blackhorse the previous weekend with the runner up spot.  First round leader, Tommy Templin of Euless, TX, rounded out the top three in the seventeen player flight.

Snead Flight:  Requiring the third playoff of the Championship, when William Hughes of Tulsa, OK and Arlington, TX, member Don Freitag couldn't settle the score in regulation.  Back to the par 5 - 10th, Hughes secured his Flight Championship and fourth win on the season. Douglas Pritchett, of Fort Worth, TX, finished just two strokes back picking up the Senior Snead Flight Championship in the combined flight.
