Rainy Day at Flower Mound Open

Scott R Chilcutt, Flower Mound, TX (June 22, 2014)  Our final of two stops at Dominion Golf Group courses in the Dallas / Fort Worth area challenged the patience and rain gear for the full field at the Flower Mound Open at Bridlewood.  20% chance or rain, or 80% chance of NO rain turned into the meteorologists 100% chance of being wrong.  Just before the first groups went off, sprinkles in the area started.  While most of it was light in nature, down pours at times took control of day.  With some luck, none of the clouds created any electricity, so the event went off with only a great deal of wet clothing and equipment.

Daniel Bohannon and Stan Harper, played with Srixon balls and took advantage of the Srixon ball promotion.  They will both receive a dozen Srixon's of their choice, for winning their respective flights. Daniel Bohannon also went on to win the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Highland Village, TX resident, John Bohling was +4 after seven holes, birdied the par 3 - 8th and then went on to shoot -2 over his final eleven holes.  With six birdies on the day, Bohling picked up his second win of the season and fourth on tour.  Three strokes back, first time player Daniel Dickens of Coppell, TX and Fort Worth, TX member, Jeremy Frenzel matched front nine and back nine scores to tie up the runner up finish.

Palmer Flight:   Gregory Haddon of Rowlett, TX starting on the 10th hole, opened his back nine with a pair of birdies at the par 4 - 1st and par 5 - 2nd  to finish his final nine in +1 to edge out Crowley, TX player John Sells by one stroke. It was Haddon's first win on the season and third in the last two years.  Sells, a runner up his last two times out and third on the year is just a few strokes from picking up his first win on tour.  Prosper, TX member, Chase Petersen birdied the par 4 - 5th to round out the top three, for his best finish on tour in his first year.

Hogan Flight:  Long time Mesquite, TX member, Gabriel Brisco stayed away from big scores to pick up his second win in as many attempts and sixth on tour.  Brisco, a winner his last time out at the  Fairview Classic @ Heritage Ranch stayed two strokes clear of Denver Tour player, David Keller of Silverthorne, CO. It was Keller's best finish on tour in his first year, with  nearby Flower Mound, TX resident Ali Gazi rounding out the top three.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Hill Country Tour traveler, Doug Collins of Iraan, TX picked up his second win on the year and second in as many attempts. Collins made birdie on the par 5 - 6th and par 4 - 11th to shoot a career low round of +4.  Three strokes back, Oklahoma Tour member, Hank Chang of Lawton, OK, starting on the back nine, went +2 on the back for the runner up finish one stroke ahead of Jalil Daneshfar of Trophy Club, TX.  Daneshfar carded three birdies on the day.

Sarazen Flight:  Jeff Workman of Forth Worth, TX is on a tear. Workman, birdied his final hole of the day, the par 4 - 18th to widen the gap for his fifth tour win, all coming in his last five outings.  Kirk Trussell, visiting from Houma, LA birdied the par 4 -11th and par 4 - 14th coming to the club house to secure the runner up finish.  One stroke back of Trussell,  Plano, TX member, Scott Lane and  Melvin Wilson III of Dallas, TX shared the third place honors.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Both, Mark Donohue of Lewisville, TX and Lake Kiowa, TX resident Davis Noble, double bogied the final hole of the day, the par 4 -9th and little did they know at the time that it would put them into extra holes.  On the first extra frame, Noble drained a 25' putt to keep it moving where they both would match shots on the next two sudden death playoff holes, until finally, Donohue took home the championship on the fourth.  It was Donohue's first win of the year and second on tour.  Birdie on the par 5 - 16th helped Steve Killion of Sanger, TX finish out the event in the third place position.

Jones Flight:  Daniel Bohannon of Plano, TX strung together birdies at the 14th and 15th holes, both par fours for his second win on his first season on tour.  Dion Casto of Parker, TX and North Richland Hills, TX tour player Luis Dayer matched front and back nine scores to share the runner up finish.  It was Casto's best finish since the February Grand Prairie Classic - TangleRidge and Dayer's best since our stop at the St Patty's Day Challenge @ Lantana.

Snead Flight:  In the last of a string of two in a row winners on the day, Stan Harper of Lake Leon, TX took his second win on tour in as many attempts by a twelve stroke advantage. The Cowboy Rides Away - Fort Worth Championship

Scott R Chilcutt, Fort Worth, TX (June 7, 2014)    Located on the east side of Fort Worth, Waterchase Golf Club is just minutes west of the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.  But more importantly on this day was its location to AT&T Stadium and the final George Strait concert. Promoted as the "Cowboy Rides Away", the concert attracted nearly 105,000 fans, breaking the indoor concert mark of The Rolling Stones in 1981 and more than a few tour members scrambled off the course to make the trip.

Waterchase may lack in clubhouse amenities, but it more than makes up with the on course experience, carved out of the local terrain, players found an abundance of native areas and water hazards to make the day challenging.

Phillip Holt, Senior Hogan Flight and Stan Harper, Senior Snead Flight took advantage of the Srixon ball challenge and will get an extra dozen for their accomplishment.   Jeff workman, Sarazen Flight picked up the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Andrew Morsinkhoff of Rockwall, TX started the day with a birdie on the par 4 - 1st, added two more at the par 4 - 4th and par 3 - 16th to shoot even par for his sixth win on tour and third of the season, punching his ticket to the National Championship.  Five strokes back the trio of McKinney, TX member Tim Williams, with five birdies on the day, Cameron Kirkpatrick of Dallas, TX with three birdies and Trophy Club, TX resident, Andrew Braun with a pair of birdies of his own, shared the runner up honors.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Terry Wooten of Grapevine, TX used four birdies on the round for the win.  It was Wooten's first win in his three years on tour by four strokes over runner up, Cincinnati Tour member Duane Dunton recently relocated to Burleson, TX. Summer Series Underway in Dallas - Fairview Classic

Scott R Chilcutt, McKinney, TX (June 1, 2014) The Fairview Classic at Heritage Ranch opens the Summer Series points on the Dallas Tour and started what's bound to be a hot series.   Warm weather, just on the verge of getting into the hot season, welcomed players with excellent course conditions.  With summer time heat underway and spring's winds subsiding it looks like we will be out with the ice towels next time around.

Brent Nolan, made the best of the Srixon ball promotion and will receive a dozen of his choice, for winning the Jones flight, playing a Srixon ball.  William Hughes, went on to win the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving

RESULTS:

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Coming off a T6 finish in Austin on Saturday,  Burnie Rodgers of Haslet, TX starting on the tenth hole went out in +2 on two birdies and took a large enough lead to the back that no one could catch him, despite looking a little travel weary later in the round.  The three stroke win was Rodgers second on the season.  Jones, OK visitor, Stan Wilson finished in the runner up spot, with a triple rounding out the top three. Bob Moreau of Rockwall, TX birdied his final hole of the day to share the third place honors with Dale McFarland of Crowley, TX and Plano, TX resident Jamie Sansom.
