The North Texas version of a TPC at Craig Ranch

Scott R Chilcutt, McKinney, TX (July 13, 2015)  In the middle of the Craig Ranch area of McKinney, TX, infamous for a recent pool party gone awry, sits TPC Craig Ranch.  The facility, a Tom Weiskopf design and one of only two courses in the metroplex certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary uses all the topography of the area to challenge the players.

The AM Tour, relegated to a Monday round due to the course's private stature, has continued to be a big draw in the North Texas area for the Championship at TPC Craig Ranch.  Jason Shuffield grabbed the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving, in a scorecard playoff over Michael Starks.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Plano, TX, player Gant Bills carded five birdies on the day, but none was more important than the par 4 - 18th.  Terry Rice of Midland, TX, took the lead in the field on the par 4 - 10th with a birdie and held on until the final hole, where a bogey would send the pair back to the course for a sudden death playoff.  On the first hole, Bills would make par from a 100 yard bunker shot, where Rice singed the edge of a birdie putt. Bills would prevail on the second playoff hole with a birdie for his second win of the season.  Three strokes back of the pair, Nick Cornelius of Arlington, TX, would finish with three birdies on the day rounding out the top three.

Palmer Flight:  With an inevitable promotion to the Championship Flight, David Wright of Flower Mound,TX, kept the ball rolling.  Wright, made par on the final three holes of the day, which proved to be just enough to pick up his fourth win on the season and seventh on tour.  One stroke back, first time player, Doug Schmierer of Dallas, TX, took a one stroke lead making the turn, but just fell short of the victory after a double on the par 4 - 10th.  Clay Johnston of Lewisville, TX, and Ranger, TX, member Scott Harper shared the third place honors after Harper drew the short straw on a pace of play penalty.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Playing out of his mind, according to his pairing partner, William Patterson of Odessa, TX, made a birdie on the par 5 - 12th and never looked back, for his first win on tour.  Tied at the turn, Whitney, TX, player J.D. Price, with a birdie on the par 4 - 6th, stumbled on the back to finish three strokes back.  Rounding out the top three, Jim Sumner of Odessa, TX, finished one stroke behind Price.

Hogan Flight:  After what first appeared to be a convincing win by Zoey DaneshFar of Trophy Club, TX, an incorrect scorecard would open the door for Auburn, WA, traveler Barry Lauderbaugh.  Lauderbaugh made the turn in the fray, birdied two out of the next three holes to finish out just ahead of Gus Aldana of Houston, TX.  Aldana, with a hiccup of his own on the scorecard, would not get the DQ, since it wasn't to his advantage, made two birdies on the back nine for his best finish of the season.  Flower Mound, TX, resident, Ali Gazi rounded out the top three in the flight just two strokes back of Aldana.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Playing from an enhanced yardage, Cleburne, TX, player Michael Starks, with eagle on the par 5 - 5th, shot the lowest round of his career for his first win on tour.  Five strokes back, Manuel Martinez of Cisco, TX, made birdie just before the turn at the par 5 - 18th, which proved to be  plenty to take the runner up finish.  Trophy Club, TX, resident, Jalil Daneshfara winner on the Oklahoma Tour the previous Saturday grabbed the show place finish.

Sarazen Flight:  With his game coming around and a pair of third place finishes including a National Championship qualification at the June Srixon Championship Major,  Jason Shuffield of nearby, Frisco, TX, shot the round of his career for his first win on tour.  Five strokes back, with a pair of birdies on the day, Preston Miller of Fort Worth,TX, would finish just ahead of Rockwall, TX, member, David Hickman.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Mark Donohue of Lewisville, TX, put another mark on his Senior National Championship run, winning his third event of the season and fifth on tour.  Donohue, a winner at the May Red River Shootout at WinStar Resort & Casino double stamped the win with a birdie on the par 3 - 15th which proved to be just enough for a one stroke win.  Tim Brown of Richland Hills, TX, a two time winner in his first year on tour and Dallas, TX, player Rodney Wren, with two birdies on the day, shared the runner up spot.

Jones Flight:  Plano,TX, player Ray Hund, carded a birdie on the par 4 -14th and was just enough for his first win on the season and second on tour.  One stroke back a trio of players were knocking on the door.  Andy Eldridge of Fort Worth, TX,  Houston, TX, player Artis Stewart, with a birdie on the par 4 - 14th and  Lloyd C Reid Jr of Dallas, TX, with a birdie of his own on the par 5 -5th shared the runner up finish.

Snead Flight:  Ethan Blase of Wylie, TX covered the field with two birdies on the back nine (where they started) to pick up his first win on tour by a whopping thirteen strokes.  Hill Country Tour traveler, Mark Colwell, finished in the runner up spot, with  Fort Worth, TX, player Douglas Pritchett rounding out the top three.
