Texas Star Hosts The Bobcat Open

Preissinger Pair Pull A Blackwood Father / Son Double

Texas Star to the Summer Schedule

Scott R Chilcutt, Euless, TX (July 15, 2012)  Texas Star Golf Course in Euless, TX has been a regular stop on the Fall schedule but the committee felt it deserving of a spring / summer date, thus the double scheduled event of the 2012 points year.  Arguably the best conditioned course of the year it made the decision look good.

While many may not understand the Bobcat Open title, those that played in the fall would remember the pace of play issues with the Bobcats on the 4th green.  Rumbling thunder clouds would stay off to the distance and keep the skies cloudy and temperatures bearable but the summer heat had the Bobcats in the native areas, where many players balls would end up.

Father / son duo, Brack and David Blackwood have doubled up three times this season, now it's Granbury, TX neighbors Burt and Greg Preissinger's turn.  Greg picked up his third win of the season and Burt his first for the second father / son combo Championship winners.  Garrett Tidman grabbed the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Andrew Braun from Trophy Club, TX came out of his corner swinging.  After finishing the March Classic @ The Creek - Indian Creek Golf Club  in a five way tie for 2nd,  Braun would card three birdies on the front nine and finish +1 with a two stroke advantage over Terry Rice from Midland, TX.  Rice overcame a "starter cough double" on the first hole to secure the runner up spot by two strokes over Irving, TX resident Jeff Shores.

Senior Championship Flight:  Four under par after his first five holes, Fort Worth, TX member Tony Hogg commanded a four stroke advantage for his first win on tour over Sapulpa, OK traveler Curt Howard. Howard, one over through his first 13 holes stayed clear of  Neal Iverson from Irving, TX by five strokes to record his eighth top five finish on the year.

Palmer Flight:  Grandbury, TX player Burt Preissinger birdied the par four 17th hole to force a playoff with perennial Grandbury, TX winner Brack Blackwood.  Coming off an ACE at the Saturday Hill Country Tour La Cantera Classic,  Blackwood would drain a long putt for Bogey on the first playoff hole to put the pressure on Preissinger.  The putt proved to be one stroke late as Burt picked up his first win on tour with a par. Adrian DelaGarza from Coppell, TX rounded out the top three for his fifth top three of the season.

Hogan Flight:  Make it FOUR. The top four finishers, all 2012 graduates from the Sarazen Flight had a combined total of seven birdies with four birdie fours on the par fives.  Scott Harper from Ranger, TX would pick up his fourth win on the year by three strokes over the Dallas, TX player Jimi Clark.  Just two strokes back, the most recently promoted player Gabriel Brisco from Mesquite, TX knotted up the show finish with Shawn Whitaker from Lewisville, TX.

Sarazen Flight:  Odessa, TX commuter, Joe Luman grabbed his second win in his last three outings on two birdies for a two stroke advantage over Preston Miller of Fort Worth.  In his best finish on the season, Miller parred the final par five 18th hole to edge out third place finisher Geoff Van Ry from Plano, TX by a stroke.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Bob Moreau from Plano, TX tried to give the win away with a double on the final hole but, an eagle on the par five 7th to go along with three birdies left him with just enough cushion to pick up his first win on the season.  One stroke back, Sanger, TX resident Stephen Killion held up the second place finish three strokes ahead of Raul Martinez from Brownwood, TX.

Jones Flight:  The second half of the father / son double, Greg Preissinger punched his ticket to the National Championship with his third win on the year.  Out in an astounding one over par, the younger Preissinger faltered after a birdie on the 11th hole but hung on to a three stroke advantage over Garrett Tidman from Little Elm, TX.  Tidman recently promoted from the Snead Flight stayed steady after a couple of early doubles to finish one stroke clear of a trio of players in the third spot.  Visiting player Kelly O'Hara from Phoenix, AZ,  Brandon Litzner from Coppell, TX and Lewisville, TX player Gerardo Garza shared the third place honors.

Senior Jones Flight:  Houston Tour visitor, Mike Murphy from Corrigan, TX hung on to his first win on the season and eighth on tour by four strokes over Garland, TX member Bob Eustice.  Eustice finished steady to stay five strokes clear of third place finisher Ron Hardy from Lewisville, TX.

Snead Flight:  Billy Hendrix from Flower Mound, TX played his way to his second win on tour this season. A winner at the April Frisco Lakes Challenge  Hendrix would hold on to a two stroke win over Championship @ TPC Craig Ranch  winner Larry Tolson from McKinney, TX.  An apparent victim of the combined divisions, Mike Adcock from Fort Worth, TX finished just outside the winners circle for the second time in as many events rounding out the top three.
