Memorial Weekend Championship at Pine Dunes

Scott R Chilcutt, Frankston, TX (May 29, 2016) Located Southeast of Dallas and straight North of Houston, Pine Dune Resort & Golf Club played host to the Memorial Weekend Championship on Sunday.  Highly touted by the media as perhaps one of the best public facilities to play in Texas, the layout didn't disappoint.

Players from all three Texas Tours, Arkansas and Oklahoma made the trek to the remote area just outside of Frankston, TX.  Continuing rains in Texas, led up to a beautiful, clear day, and while players had to traverse around water in the greens, it was the water in the jugs they were looking for.  Summer came, seemingly overnight with 80% humidity and 86 degrees, it was hot amongst the pine trees.

Phil Lewis (Jones Flight) was "Up for the Srixon Challenge".   Winning his prospective flight playing a Srixon ball, he will get a dozen sent to him for the win. Jorge Rodriguez picked up the Tournament Champion, presented by Carlisle's Engraving in a scorecard playoff over Mike Welch with a net - 4.   The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $390, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tour local events to $7,410 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Lewisville, TX, first year player, Jack Carlile, started the round with a birdie on the par 4 - 2nd, and made the turn with a slight, one stroke lead. Four over after the first five holes coming to the clubhouse, the Championship looked to be in jeopardy for Carlile, until he kicked it in gear closing out with four consecutive birdies for his first win on tour.  Four strokes back, with four birdies on the day, Neil Hennigan of Beaumont, TX, cleared his third runner up spot of the year, to go with one win, with Kingwood, TX, player Derek Husband, rounding out the top three with three birdies on his round.

Palmer Flight:  Clay Johnston of Lewisville, TX, secured a National Championship spot with his third win on the season, with the help of two birdies on the round.  Three strokes back, the pair of Michael Barr, also from Lewisville, TX with two birdies on the day, and Stillwater, OK, player Ryan Cummings, adding three birdies to his round, shared the runner up finish.

Hogan Flight:  One of a few players to make the double over the weekend, Jorge Rodriquez of Round Rock, TX,  fared much better on the Sunday round.  Rodriquez, with birdies on the par 5 - 5th and par 3 - 16th,  picked up his eleventh win on tour and second of the season after finishing T8 the day before.  Tyler, TX, member, Gary Lee, in his first start of the year, carded three birdies on the day, for the second place spot, with Al Campo, of Deer Park, TX, settling for the show place spot.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Coming off a T3, Senior National Championship qualification at the Triburan Amateur Major in Florida the previous weekend, Kevin Turner, of La Port, TX made the trip worth while, picking up his second win on the year and seventh on tour.  Baytown, TX, player Harold Jackson, made it a one / two Houston Tour punch for the second place finish, with Jalil Daneshfar of Trophy Club, TX, rounding out the top three.

Sarazen Flight:  Starting the day on the par 4 - 10th, Jeff Workman of Fort Worth, TX book-ended his front nine with birdies, added another on the par 4 - 2nd, and cruised to a four stroke win.  For Workman, it was this third win on the season, punching his ticket to the National Championship, and first on Texas soil.  Deer Park, TX, resident, Blake Barnes, used a birdie on the par 5 - 11th to finish in the runner up spot, with Wadsworth Jarrell of Fort Worth, with a birdie of his own on the day, taking home the third place honors.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Oklahoma Tour player, Bill Clark of Edmond, OK, talked into making the trip by some Dallas Tour players, led the non Dallas Tour podium sweep in the flight.  Clark, with a birdie on the par 5 - 18th, his ninth hole of the day, took just enough momentum making the turn to finish two strokes ahead of the pair of Spring, TX, Houston Tour members, Gary Gum and Chris Neeley, splitting the runner up spot.

Jones Flight:  Phil Lewis of San Antonio, TX, was the second of the day to take home the Championship in two attempts on the weekend.  Lewis, residing just miles south of the Saturday round at the Battle at Blanco, finished T10 on his first attempt, but made the drive Northeast some five hours worth his while.  Using birdies on the par 3 - 6th and par 4 - 10th, Lewis would pick up his first win of the season and third on tour.  Two strokes back, a pair of players from Montgomery, TX, and the Houston Tour, John Pickens and Joe Michetti, split the second place finish.

Snead Flight:  Settled in for the after round, hamburger buffet, the pair of Fort Worth, TX, players Mike Welch with a pair of birdies on his round and Walter Albertson had to eat fast and remount for the sudden death playoff.  Back to the par 4 - 1st, Welch would prevail, for his first win on tour. For Albertson, it was his second runner up finish in two attempts on tour.  Missing the playoff by just a single stroke, Kingwood, TX, member Ray Bednar, with a birdie on the par 4 - 2nd, rounded out the top three.

2016 - Fort Worth Championship - Waterchase

Scott  R Chilcutt, Fort Worth, TX (May 15, 2016)  Waterchase Golf Club, once again played host to the Fort Worth Championship on the Golf Channel AM Tour.  Consistently in great shape this time of the year, the track also held true to the spring rains and treacherous bunker play.

Phillip Holt (Senior Hogan Flight) and Jimmy Clanin (Snead Flight)  were "Up for the Srixon Challenge".   Winning their prospective flights playing a Srixon ball, both will get a dozen sent to them for the wins. Terry Rice, picked up the Tournament Champion, presented by Carlisle's Engraving over a trio of players in a scorecard playoff, net -2.   The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $500, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tours to $6,430 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  In a strong field of Championship Flight players, Terry Rice of Midland, TX, was down one stroke at the turn to two players.  Making the turn, Rice, added a birdie on the par 3 - 14th, to play the back nine in -1 for a two stroke victory, his fifteenth on tour and first of the season after three previous runner up finishes.  Trophy Club, TX, player Nick Quast, seemingly unbeatable, with three straight wins in three attempts, finished in the runner up spot, with three birdies on the day.  Rounding out the top three, David Wright of Flower Mound, TX, with two birdies on his round, and Ari Rogers of Fort Worth, TX, using three birdies on his front nine, shared third place honors.

Palmer Flight:   After the excitement of his career first hole in one on the par 3 - 16th with an eight iron from 157 yards, Todd Arnold of Fort Worth, TX, doubled his final hole to open the door for a playoff.  Off to the tenth hole for the sudden death, Granbury, TX, player Tim Bush would  make a bogie, just enough to pick up the championship, his first on tour.  Stephen Fitzgerald, of Dallas, TX, with two birdies on the round, and Keller, TX, member Nic Linde, with a birdie of his own would split the third place finish.

Hogan Flight:  Starting on the first hole, Gabe Brisco of Mesquite, TX, with a birdie on the par 5 - 6th, held on to a two stroke lead heading to the back nine, plenty to pick up his tenth win on tour and second of the season.  Three strokes back, Fort Worth, TX, player Kirk Boerner and winner last fall at Hawks Creek grabbed the runner up spot, his fifth of the points season.  Houston tour member, Rick Houchins, with the help of three birdies on the day, cleared the third place finish by a stroke for his third podium of the season.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Starting on the back nine, Phillip Holt of Haslet, TX, had a colorful scorecard on his first nine holes, including three birdies, that would put him in place for his second win on the season and eighth on tour.  Fort Worth, TX, resident, Scott Harris, held a slim lead on his front nine, but carded trip sevens on the back to finish two strokes back.   The trio of Steve Killion of Sanger,TX and Mansfield, TX, member, John Cox, with a pair of birdies, along with Jalil Danesfar of Trophy Club, TX, shared the third place finish.

Sarazen Flight:   Despite a pair of doubles, along with a pair of triples, Wadsworth Jarrell, of Fort Worth, TX, became a two time Champion on the season with a commanding four stroke victory.  Richardson, TX, player Sven Bock, a two time winner on the season, carded his third runner up spot, with  first year player, Bryan Hodges of Dallas, TX, taking home the show place finish.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Top two honors, went to the traveling pair of Wichita Falls, TX, members, Michael Hardegree and Derek Drake. For Hardegree, it was his third win on tour and first since the August 2014 Las Colinas Open. Three strokes back, with birdie on the par 4 - 11th, Drake finished one stroke ahead of two players carding two birdies on the day,  Tim Brown of Richland Hills, TX, and Lewisville, TX, member Mark Donohue, rounding out the top three.

Jones Flight:  Eastland, TX, player Terry Everts, commanded his first win in twenty attempts on tour, with a four stroke advantage.  Buddy Williams, a winner his first time out at Iron Horse in February, carded the runner up spot with Midland, TX, player Mike Jones taking home the third place finish.

Fairview Classic at Heritage Ranch

Scott R Chilcutt, Fairview, TX (April 24, 2016)  Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club, home of the Fairview Classic on the Golf Channel AM Tour, Dallas Tour. The 2015 event scheduled in May was flooded out, with rising spring waters keeping play off the front nine.  This years event looked to have the same fate a week before the event, but subsiding waters allowed the course maintenance staff to get the front nine in a playable condition with the exception of a shortened par 4 - 7th making a par 3.

Walter White (Senior Sarazen Flight) was "Up for the Srixon Challenge".   Winning his prospective flight playing a Srixon ball, Walter will get a dozen sent to him for the win. Zane Latham, with a -7 net score, won for the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving.   The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $380, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tours to $5,700 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Looks like, Trophy Club, TX, member Nick Quast, and his move back to Texas from the west coast, suits his game.  Going out with a birdie on the par 5 - 4th, and even par on the front, Quast birdied the par 4 - 10th and then cruised to his third win in as many attempts and his eighth on tour.  Tied up at the turn, Dallas Webster of Wylie, TX, and McKinney, TX, player Tim Williams, bounced back and forth over the final nine holes to even it back up on the final hole, to share the runner up finish.

Palmer Flight:  John Padilla of Fort Worth, TX, started the day a little rough with four bogies in his first five holes, but turned on the after burners to finish the final thirteen in 2 under par, with two birdies, to lap the field for his first win on tour.  Lewisville, TX, perennial winner, Clay Johnston, with consecutive birdies on the par 4 - 13th and par 4 - 14th, could only muster a second place finish, nine strokes back.  Chase Peterson of McKinney, TX, with a birdie on the par 4 - 2nd and Houston Tour traveler, Aaron Brougher of Spring, TX, split the third place honors.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Coppell, TX, member Mark Taylor, starting on the tenth hole, made the turn four strokes out of the lead.  Birdie on the par 4 - 1st, to go with five pars coming to the clubhouse, would put Taylor in a sudden death playoff with JD Price of Lake Whitney, TX.  Back to the par 4 - 1st, the pair would match up on the first hole, then Taylor would pick up his fifth win on tour, and first since the 2015 Dallas Tour Championship on the second hole.  For Price, it was his fourth runner up finish on the season to go with two wins. Garland, TX, player Kem Albritton, finished just one stroke out of the playoff to pick up the third place spot, with a birdie on the par 4 - 15th.

Hogan Flight:  Coming off his first win on tour, the Major Championship at the Kingsmill Classic in Williamsburg, VA, the week before, Scott Striegel of Southlake, TX, made it two in as many weeks.  Striegel took a one stroke advantage to the back nine, with the help of a birdie on the par 4 - 15th and then held on for the win, using the shortened 7th hole and another birdie to pick up the win.  McKinney, TX, player Navakiran Chiturri, finished one stroke back for the runner up spot, with Gabe Briscoe, and a birdie on the par 4 - 5th rounding out the top three.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Trophy Club, TX, member Jalil Daneshfar, stayed out of trouble to pick up his eleventh win on tour and second of the points season.  Four strokes back, Sal Torres of Fort Worth, TX, seems to be taking retirement well, with a birdie on the par 4 - 15th. The runner up spot was his best finish in two years on tour. Three strokes back of Torres, Houston Tour visitor, Michael Castaneda, of League City, TX, used the trip north to his advantage, for his best finish on the season.

Sarazen Flight:  Just outside of Baton Rouge, LA, Eric Chavers of Walker, LA, a frequent traveler to Texas Tour events, picked up his first win in three years on tour.  Chavers, with birdies on the par 3 - 4th and par 4 - 15th, ran away from the field for a six stroke advantage.  Jeff Workman, of Fort Worth, TX, seemingly in a rut on the season, broke out for his best finish on the points year in the runner up spot, with Granbury, TX, first time player Heston Krumnow, rounding out the top three.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Out of the country working for two thirds of the year, it's been a long time coming for Walter White of Monroe, LA.  White became an eight time winner on tour and first since May of 2013 with the help of a birdie on the par 3 - 7th, proving to be just enough to top the second place finisher, Dallas, TX, member Rick Allaire by two strokes.  One stroke back of Allaire, Davis Noble of Lake Kiowa, TX and Lewisville, TX, member Mark Donohue, shared the third place finish.

Jones Flight:  Lloyd Reid JR, of Dallas, TX, started his day out right with a birdie on the par 4 - 1st, leading to his ninth win on tour and first of the season.  Hanging with Reid, on the front nine, Valley View, TX, member Zane Latham, fell just one stroke back into a tie for second with Larry Tolson, a Heritage Ranch local, after he birdied the par 4 - 14th.  For Latham, the winner of the Tournament Champion trophy, it was his best finish on the season.

Snead Flight:  Arlington, TX, resident, Don Freitag, took two strokes off his front nine, coming to the club house to even the score with Adam Wright of Mineola, TX.  Back to the par 4 - 1st for the playoff, where Freitag made par the first time around, the table turned and Wright picked up the win, with a bogey.  It was Wright's first win on tour and third runner up finish for Freitag on the season. Two strokes back, Douglas Pritchett of Fort Worth, TX, a winner on the points season at his home course in November, carded the third place finish.

Great Day at Frisco Lakes Challenge

Scott R Chilcutt, Frisco, TX (April 9, 2016)  What started as great morning for The Spring Championship at Frisco Lakes, originally scheduled for a Fall Challenge, turned into a somber moment for the field, when we learned that Stan Harper, Lake Leon, TX, a long time player and fierce competitor in the Snead Flight passed away just a day earlier.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, Stan was a fine man and great friend of the tour.

Steve Killion (Senior Hogan Flight), was "Up for the Srixon Challenge", winning his prospective flight playing a Srixon ball and will get a dozen sent to him for the win. Joshua Tankersley, with a -6 net score, beat out Tom Stockton in a score card playoff grabbing the win for the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving.   The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $320, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tours to $4,670 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Recently relocated to Trophy Club, TX, from the West Coast, Nick Quast picked up his seventh win on tour and second in as many attempts.  Quast, hot out of the gates, was two under after seven holes with a pair of birdies, added one at his final hole, the par 5 - 18th for a one stroke advantage over Terry Rice of Midland, TX.  Rice, with four birdies of his own on the day, edged out the pair of Mansfield, TX, member Rachel Smith and Jack Carlile of Lewisville, TX, both carding birdies, by one stroke.

Palmer Flight:  Starting the day on the 10th hole,  Bekim Ramadani, of Arlington, TX,  a two time winner on tour, edged the field by two strokes making the turn.  Ramadani, looked to have things in hand until he got to his seventeenth hole of the day, making double on the par 3 - 8th opening the door for a pair of players to sneak into a playoff.  McKinney, TX, player Michael Rutkowski, with a birdie on the par 5 - 3rd and second time tour player, Ron Schwinn, matching that birdie, forced a sudden death playoff.  Back to the first hole, Schwinn and Ramadini knocked out Rutkowski on the first hole with pars, where then Schwinn, would par the par 4 - 2nd for the second time of the day to pick up the Championship, his first on tour.

Hogan Flight:  Coming off his first win on tour at the February Iron Horse event, Bobby Duty of Midland, TX, kept the ball rolling.  Duty, with a birdie on the par 5 - 15th, shot the round of his AM Tour career, a +4 - 76 for a one stroke advantage.  Fort Worth, TX, player Kirk Boerner, in the top five in seven events on the points season, made it his third runner up finish to go along with a win at November Fall Championship at Hawks Creek.  Three strokes back of Boerner, Darren Bufton of Bedford, TX, a winner at Riverchase in March, rounded out the top three.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Lobbying for a move back to the Senior Sarazen Flight before his round, Sanger, TX, player Steve Killion took that option out of play on Saturday.  The Flight, starting on the tenth hole for the round, had eleven of the fourteen within three strokes of the lead making the turn. Phillip Holt, of Haslet, TX, carded pars on his final two holes to take it to a playoff with Killion.  Back to the par 4 - 1st, Steve made par for his twelfth win on tour and first on the season. Dallas, TX, member Drew Keith, carded his best finish back on tour, with the third place spot.

Sarazen Flight:  Nick Easen, the 2013 National Champion in the Jones Flight, carded his second win on the season, and his seventeenth on tour.  Easen finished just one stroke ahead of Richardson, TX, player Sven Bock, a two time winner on tour this season. Five strokes back of Bock, Fort Worth, TX, player Wadsworth Jarrell, the Texas Open @ Horseshoe Bay Champion, and Mark Tylenda, of Dallas, TX, rounded out the top three.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Grand Prairie, TX, resident, Tom Stockton, made the turn two strokes back of a pair of players looking to be in the hunt for the championship, but didn't let that slow him down, coming to the clubhouse in a three way tie. Back to the #1 tee for the sudden death playoff, Arlington TX, member Chris Howl, and Lewisville, TX player Mark Dononhue, set out to finish the score.  First hole, Donohue out with a bogie, then three holes later, Stockton, commanded his sixth win on tour with a par on the par 4 - 4th, his first since a May 2015 event in Florida.

Jones Flight:  Pete Partain, of Bedford, TX, picked up his second win in as many attempts and only his second on tour.  Haslet, TX, player Doyle Fleming, took a triple on his final hole of the day, but was able to secure the runner up spot with Mike Brown of Midlothian, TX and two birdies on the day, rounding out the top three.

Snead Flight:  Joshua Tankersley, of Fort Worth, TX, clobbered the field once again, looking towards a promotion with his third win in four attempts.  75 year old, Douglas Pritchett, also of Fort Worth, TX, a winner at the Fall Championship at Hawks Creek, finished in the runner up spot, with Arlington, TX, player Thomas Rauch taking the show position finish.
