Fairview Classic at Heritage Ranch

Scott R Chilcutt, Fairview, TX (April 24, 2016)  Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club, home of the Fairview Classic on the Golf Channel AM Tour, Dallas Tour. The 2015 event scheduled in May was flooded out, with rising spring waters keeping play off the front nine.  This years event looked to have the same fate a week before the event, but subsiding waters allowed the course maintenance staff to get the front nine in a playable condition with the exception of a shortened par 4 - 7th making a par 3.

Walter White (Senior Sarazen Flight) was "Up for the Srixon Challenge".   Winning his prospective flight playing a Srixon ball, Walter will get a dozen sent to him for the win. Zane Latham, with a -7 net score, won for the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving  The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $380, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tours to $5,700 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Looks like, Trophy Club, TX, member Nick Quast, and his move back to Texas from the west coast, suits his game.  Going out with a birdie on the par 5 - 4th, and even par on the front, Quast birdied the par 4 - 10th and then cruised to his third win in as many attempts and his eighth on tour.  Tied up at the turn, Dallas Webster of Wylie, TX, and McKinney, TX, player Tim Williams, bounced back and forth over the final nine holes to even it back up on the final hole, to share the runner up finish.

Palmer Flight:  John Padilla of Fort Worth, TX, started the day a little rough with four bogies in his first five holes, but turned on the after burners to finish the final thirteen in 2 under par, with two birdies, to lap the field for his first win on tour.  Lewisville, TX, perennial winner, Clay Johnston, with consecutive birdies on the par 4 - 13th and par 4 - 14th, could only muster a second place finish, nine strokes back.  Chase Peterson of McKinney, TX, with a birdie on the par 4 - 2nd and Houston Tour traveler, Aaron Brougher of Spring, TX, split the third place honors.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Coppell, TX, member Mark Taylor, starting on the tenth hole, made the turn four strokes out of the lead.  Birdie on the par 4 - 1st, to go with five pars coming to the clubhouse, would put Taylor in a sudden death playoff with JD Price of Lake Whitney, TX.  Back to the par 4 - 1st, the pair would match up on the first hole, then Taylor would pick up his fifth win on tour, and first since the 2015 Dallas Tour Championship on the second hole.  For Price, it was his fourth runner up finish on the season to go with two wins. Garland, TX, player Kem Albritton, finished just one stroke out of the playoff to pick up the third place spot, with a birdie on the par 4 - 15th.

Hogan Flight:  Coming off his first win on tour, the Major Championship at the Kingsmill Classic in Williamsburg, VA, the week before, Scott Striegel of Southlake, TX, made it two in as many weeks.  Striegel took a one stroke advantage to the back nine, with the help of a birdie on the par 4 - 15th and then held on for the win, using the shortened 7th hole and another birdie to pick up the win.  McKinney, TX, player Navakiran Chiturri, finished one stroke back for the runner up spot, with Gabe Briscoe, and a birdie on the par 4 - 5th rounding out the top three.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Trophy Club, TX, member Jalil Daneshfar, stayed out of trouble to pick up his eleventh win on tour and second of the points season.  Four strokes back, Sal Torres of Fort Worth, TX, seems to be taking retirement well, with a birdie on the par 4 - 15th. The runner up spot was his best finish in two years on tour. Three strokes back of Torres, Houston Tour visitor, Michael Castaneda, of League City, TX, used the trip north to his advantage, for his best finish on the season.

Sarazen Flight:  Just outside of Baton Rouge, LA, Eric Chavers of Walker, LA, a frequent traveler to Texas Tour events, picked up his first win in three years on tour.  Chavers, with birdies on the par 3 - 4th and par 4 - 15th, ran away from the field for a six stroke advantage.  Jeff Workman, of Fort Worth, TX, seemingly in a rut on the season, broke out for his best finish on the points year in the runner up spot, with Granbury, TX, first time player Heston Krumnow, rounding out the top three.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Out of the country working for two thirds of the year, it's been a long time coming for Walter White of Monroe, LA.  White became an eight time winner on tour and first since May of 2013 with the help of a birdie on the par 3 - 7th, proving to be just enough to top the second place finisher, Dallas, TX, member Rick Allaire by two strokes.  One stroke back of Allaire, Davis Noble of Lake Kiowa, TX and Lewisville, TX, member Mark Donohue, shared the third place finish.

Jones Flight:  Lloyd Reid JR, of Dallas, TX, started his day out right with a birdie on the par 4 - 1st, leading to his ninth win on tour and first of the season.  Hanging with Reid, on the front nine, Valley View, TX, member Zane Latham, fell just one stroke back into a tie for second with Larry Tolson, a Heritage Ranch local, after he birdied the par 4 - 14th.  For Latham, the winner of the Tournament Champion trophy, it was his best finish on the season.

Snead Flight:  Arlington, TX, resident, Don Freitag, took two strokes off his front nine, coming to the club house to even the score with Adam Wright of Mineola, TX.  Back to the par 4 - 1st for the playoff, where Freitag made par the first time around, the table turned and Wright picked up the win, with a bogey.  It was Wright's first win on tour and third runner up finish for Freitag on the season. Two strokes back, Douglas Pritchett of Fort Worth, TX, a winner on the points season at his home course in November, carded the third place finish.
