Great Day at Frisco Lakes Challenge

Scott R Chilcutt, Frisco, TX (April 9, 2016)  What started as great morning for The Spring Championship at Frisco Lakes, originally scheduled for a Fall Challenge, turned into a somber moment for the field, when we learned that Stan Harper, Lake Leon, TX, a long time player and fierce competitor in the Snead Flight passed away just a day earlier.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, Stan was a fine man and great friend of the tour.

Steve Killion (Senior Hogan Flight), was "Up for the Srixon Challenge", winning his prospective flight playing a Srixon ball and will get a dozen sent to him for the win. Joshua Tankersley, with a -6 net score, beat out Tom Stockton in a score card playoff grabbing the win for the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving  The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $320, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tours to $4,670 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Recently relocated to Trophy Club, TX, from the West Coast, Nick Quast picked up his seventh win on tour and second in as many attempts.  Quast, hot out of the gates, was two under after seven holes with a pair of birdies, added one at his final hole, the par 5 - 18th for a one stroke advantage over Terry Rice of Midland, TX.  Rice, with four birdies of his own on the day, edged out the pair of Mansfield, TX, member Rachel Smith and Jack Carlile of Lewisville, TX, both carding birdies, by one stroke.

Palmer Flight:  Starting the day on the 10th hole,  Bekim Ramadani, of Arlington, TX,  a two time winner on tour, edged the field by two strokes making the turn.  Ramadani, looked to have things in hand until he got to his seventeenth hole of the day, making double on the par 3 - 8th opening the door for a pair of players to sneak into a playoff.  McKinney, TX, player Michael Rutkowski, with a birdie on the par 5 - 3rd and second time tour player, Ron Schwinn, matching that birdie, forced a sudden death playoff.  Back to the first hole, Schwinn and Ramadini knocked out Rutkowski on the first hole with pars, where then Schwinn, would par the par 4 - 2nd for the second time of the day to pick up the Championship, his first on tour.

Hogan Flight:  Coming off his first win on tour at the February Iron Horse event, Bobby Duty of Midland, TX, kept the ball rolling.  Duty, with a birdie on the par 5 - 15th, shot the round of his AM Tour career, a +4 - 76 for a one stroke advantage.  Fort Worth, TX, player Kirk Boerner, in the top five in seven events on the points season, made it his third runner up finish to go along with a win at November Fall Championship at Hawks Creek.  Three strokes back of Boerner, Darren Bufton of Bedford, TX, a winner at Riverchase in March, rounded out the top three.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Lobbying for a move back to the Senior Sarazen Flight before his round, Sanger, TX, player Steve Killion took that option out of play on Saturday.  The Flight, starting on the tenth hole for the round, had eleven of the fourteen within three strokes of the lead making the turn. Phillip Holt, of Haslet, TX, carded pars on his final two holes to take it to a playoff with Killion.  Back to the par 4 - 1st, Steve made par for his twelfth win on tour and first on the season. Dallas, TX, member Drew Keith, carded his best finish back on tour, with the third place spot.

Sarazen Flight:  Nick Easen, the 2013 National Champion in the Jones Flight, carded his second win on the season, and his seventeenth on tour.  Easen finished just one stroke ahead of Richardson, TX, player Sven Bock, a two time winner on tour this season. Five strokes back of Bock, Fort Worth, TX, player Wadsworth Jarrell, the Texas Open @ Horseshoe Bay Champion, and Mark Tylenda, of Dallas, TX, rounded out the top three.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Grand Prairie, TX, resident, Tom Stockton, made the turn two strokes back of a pair of players looking to be in the hunt for the championship, but didn't let that slow him down, coming to the clubhouse in a three way tie. Back to the #1 tee for the sudden death playoff, Arlington TX, member Chris Howl, and Lewisville, TX player Mark Dononhue, set out to finish the score.  First hole, Donohue out with a bogie, then three holes later, Stockton, commanded his sixth win on tour with a par on the par 4 - 4th, his first since a May 2015 event in Florida.

Jones Flight:  Pete Partain, of Bedford, TX, picked up his second win in as many attempts and only his second on tour.  Haslet, TX, player Doyle Fleming, took a triple on his final hole of the day, but was able to secure the runner up spot with Mike Brown of Midlothian, TX and two birdies on the day, rounding out the top three.

Snead Flight:  Joshua Tankersley, of Fort Worth, TX, clobbered the field once again, looking towards a promotion with his third win in four attempts.  75 year old, Douglas Pritchett, also of Fort Worth, TX, a winner at the Fall Championship at Hawks Creek, finished in the runner up spot, with Arlington, TX, player Thomas Rauch taking the show position finish.
