Heat is on TPC Craig Ranch - DFW Tour

Scott R Chilcutt, McKinney, TX (July 16, 2018)  The Championship @ TPC Craig Ranch - 2018 version marks the eighth consecutive event on the DFW Tour at the famed course in McKinney.  While the registration for the special Monday event, started slow early, it's been a sellout for the last six years.  The things that have remained consistent over the years, was the heat in July and the great course conditions.

The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $630, with Texas Tour events total raised to $18,220 contributed to the Foundation in 2018.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Cedar Hill, TX, member Chris Ransbottom, went out -1, with a birdie on the par 5 - 9th, added two more on the 10th and 18th, to finish, even par on the day for his second win, in his first year on tour.  On stroke back, David Wright of Flower Mound, TX, made a run at the top with three birdies coming to the clubhouse, including two on 17 and 18 to finish, two strokes clear of a pair just behind him.  Traveling players, Noah Puris of Katy, TX, with three birdies on the round and Midland, TX, member Zach Winkler with six of his own, shared the showplace finish.

Palmer Flight:  Dallas Webster of Murphy, TX, started the day with a birdie on the par 4 - 10th, added an eagle making the turn at the par 5 - 18th, and then finished the round with a birdie on the par 5 - 9th, to finish even par for his fifth win of the season.  Kirk Boerner of Fort Worth, TX, with two birdies on his day, took home the runner-up finish five strokes clear of a trio in third.  Jason Pannell, of Franklin, TX, McKinney, TX, resident Austin Woodruff and Scott Harper of Ranger, TX, rounded out the top three finishers.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Starting the day on the par 4 - 10th, Jack Whitling of Wylie, TX, finished his round with consecutive birdies on #8 and #9 to clear the way for his fourth win of the season, including his last time out at the Hill Country Classic at LacCantera Major Championship.  Local club member, Michael Fyfe of McKinney, TX, took home the second place honors, with Arlington, TX, member Jack Godfrey, with two birdies on the day, rounding out the top three.

Hogan Flight:  Jeff Blackwood of Dallas, TX, is clearly back in form.  Blackwood, the 2014 National Champion, a seven-time winner on tour, has won two in a row, after picking up the Major Championship at Horseshoe Bay, but it hasn't come easy.  With persistent back issues, it was the Fall of 2015, since his last win and clearly back on track.  Two strokes back, with four birdies on his round, Steve Cochran of Flower Mound, TX, carded his best finish of the season in the second-place spot, with Richardson, TX, player John Hickman, and a birdie on his first hole of the day, taking home the final podium finish.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Carrollton, TX, member Ken Johnson, with a birdie on the par 4 - 2nd, finished out the championship for his second win of the season and first since the season opener in October.  Three strokes back, Phillip Holt of Haslet, TX, with two birdies on his day, took home the runner-up finish, with Bullard, TX, player Bill Clark, with two birdies of his own, rounding out the top three.

Sarazen Flight:  Rodney Wren of Dallas, TX, held just enough of a lead making the turn with a birdie on the par 5 - 18th, after starting the day on the tenth hole to keep the win in sight, just ahead of a hard-charging Oklahoma Tour Player, Stan Wilson of Jones, OK.  Wren added three birdies on the back to win by one stroke, after Wilson lite up his final nine, at +1.  For Wren, it was his fifth win of the season.  Wilson, cleared four players knotted up in the third-place finish but a single stroke.  Joe Luman of Odessa, TX, Fort Worth, TX, player Preston Miller, Jerry Emmons of Granbury, TX, and Lott, TX, resident Randy Helcel, split the final podium spot.

Jones Flight:  Coming off a win over the weekend at the Pinehurst Amateur Major Championship, Kevin Crosson of Abilene, TX, looked to make it two in a row, but it wouldn't come easy.  Crosson, starting the day on the par 4 - 10th, made birdie and made the turn two strokes ahead of Haslet, TX, player Doyle Fleming.  Fleming to even the score, with the help of two birdies on his final nine holes forcing a playoff with Crosson.   Back to the heat and the par 4 - 10th, for the sudden death, Crosson would prevail for his sixth win of the season.  Jason Naranjo of Plano, TX, with the help of a birdie on the par 5 - 5th, would finish out the top three for his best finish on tour.

Snead Flight:  Traveling Oklahoma Tour player, Rob Hollingsworth from Edmond, OK, commanded his second win on tour and first of the season with the help of a birdie on the par 4 - 6th.  Lewisville, TX, player Ron Hardy, took home the runner-up prize with a birdie of his own on the par 4 - 14th, with a pair of players just behind him in third.  One stroke back, Keith Huddleston of Fort Worth, TX, with a birdie on the par 3 -17th and Abilene, TX, player Annett Crossan, shared the third place honors.
