Tierra Verde for the Arlington Championship

Scott R Chilcutt, Arlington, TX (July 24, 2017)  Off the tour since 2013, Tierre Verde Golf Club, when winter kill issues hampered the conditions, this years edition certainly didn't disappoint.  Owned and operated  by the City of Arlington, the first municipal golf course in the world to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary, the track clearly takes advantage of the natural beauty and terrain.

Steve Killion (Senior Hogan Flight) and, Walter Alberston (Jones Flight) were "Up for the Srixon Challenge".   Winning their respective flights playing a Srixon ball, they will get a dozen sent to them for the win. Walter Albertson picked up the Tournament Champion, presented by Carlisle's Engraving with a -8 - 64.  The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $400, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tour local events to $11,240 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  First year tour player, Travis Jones of Fort Worth, TX, and Flower Mound, TX, member David Wright swapped front nine / back nine scores to end up knotted in the top spot at the clubhouse.   Back out to the course for the sudden death playoff, the pair would both par the first, and it took a birdie on the par 5 - 2nd for Wright to pick up his first win on the season.  Jack Carlile of Lewisville, TX,  made a run at the end with three birdies in four holes, but gave them back on the final hole of the day with a triple, to share the third place honors with nearby Grand Prairie, TX, member Larry Vannatta.

Palmer Flight:  Michael Barr from Lewisville, TX, with three birdies on his round, would end the day tied up with Ranger, TX, player Scott Harper, with a birdie on his own. Back out to the course, it would be Barr that prevailed in the playoff to pick up his first win, in his first season on tour.  For Harper, it was his fourth runner up finish on the season to go with a win at the March Dye Classic @ Stonebridge.  John Sells of Crowley, TX, on hiatus from the tour since last summer, went even par on his front nine, to finish just one stroke out of the lead.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Bryan, TX, player Ricky Napper, made the best of a birdie on the par 4 - 10th for his first win on tour.  One stroke back, another Houston Tour traveler, Bruce Beakley, with three wins on the season, shared the runner up finish with Trophy Club, TX, member Jalil Daneshfar, carding his second runner up since his promotion from the Senior Hogan Flight in early July.

Hogan Flight:  Gabe Brisco of Mesquite, TX, grabbed his fourth win on the season, using three birdies on the round, for a four stroke victory.  Brisco, trending to an 8.0 Tournament Index, will get to play at least another month with the Hogan Flight.  Fort Worth, TX, resident Kirk Boerner, with four birdies on his round, had the second place finish to himself with a pair of players two strokes back in the show position.  Mel Goss of Terrell, TX, and Flower Mound, TX, member Ali Gazi, shared the third place honors.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Sanger, TX, player Steve Killion, played his back nine in -1 with a birdie on the par 3 - 11th, grabbing his Senior National Championship qualifying third win of the season.  One stroke back, Scott Harris of Fort Worth, a late fill in, with late night trailer towing duties, made the most of his round with two birdies on the day for his fifth runner up on the season, to go with one win.  Salado, TX, traveler Jerry Smith, off the tour for over a year, added a third place finish to his one win and T2 on three events on the year.

Sarazen Flight:  Oklahoma Tour player, Greg Holmes of Edmond, started a Sarazen / Senior Sarazen dominance on the day from players north of the Red River.  Holmes took, six strokes off his back nine to win by two strokes over San Antonio, TX, player CD Dunem.  Fort Worth, TX, member Wadsworth Jarrell and Dallas, TX, resident Mark Tylenda, shared the third place honors one stroke back of Dunem.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Jones, OK, player Stan Wilson, made it two for two on the Dallas Tour after winning the previous Monday at TPC Craig Ranch.  For Wilson, it was his third win on the season, all on Texas soil. The pair of Wichita Falls, TX, player Derek Drake and Michael Hardegree, shared the runner up finish with Chris Howl of nearby Arlington, TX, one stroke back.
