Going Low - Championship @ TPC Craig Ranch

Scott R Chilcutt, McKinney, TX (July 18, 2016)  TPC Craig Ranch, sits In the middle of the Craig Ranch area of McKinney, TX.  One of only two courses in the metroplex certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, the Tom Weiskopf design has continued to be a staple of the DFW Tour since 2011, with sellouts every year since 2012.

Michael Starks (Senior Hogan Flight), Walter Alberston (Jones Flight), Craig Merrill (Senior Jones Flight) and William Hughs (Snead Flight) were "Up for the Srixon Challenge".   Winning their respective flights playing a Srixon ball, they will get a dozen sent to them for the win. Walter Albertson picked up the Tournament Champion, presented by Carlisle's Engraving with a -11 - 61.  The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $450, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tour local events to $10,840 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Nearly a replay of the 2015 version of the Championship @ TPC Craig Ranch,  Gant Bills of nearby Plano, TX, clearly knows his way around the track.  With six birdies on the round, Bills  picked up his sixth win on tour and third of the season.  Midland, TX, player Terry Rice, a runner up last year, held true to form again with the second place finish.  Ari Rogers of Fort Worth, TX, jumped one spot from his last attempt at the course, to round out the top three, with the help of two birdies on the round.

Palmer Flight:   First time tour player, David Lyons of Plano, TX, started out rocky, with a triple on his first hole, then carded two birdies coming to the clubhouse to edge out Ranger, TX, second place finisher Scott Harper, by a stroke. Ryan Cummings, of Stillwater, OK, started slow, but bounced back with a -1 on the last five holes to finish in the show place spot.

Hogan Flight:  Trophy Club, TX, player Zoey Daneshfar missed out on a win last year with a scorecard snafu, but was bound to make it stick this time around.  Daneshfar, with four birdies on the round after starting out on a bogie train, picked up her second win on the season.  Four strokes back, A.J. Englerth of Killeen, TX,  got his game in order on the back nine, for his best finish on tour.  Round Rock, TX, traveler, Jorge Rodriguez, grabbed his second, third place finish of the weekend, just a stroke back.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Another defending Champion, Michael Starks of Cleburn, TX, recorded his second win on tour, both in McKinney.  Starks with three birdies on his round, edged out a pair of players just one stroke back, knotted in the runner up spot.  Granbury, TX, member Dave Hansen and Kirby Rogers of Muldrow, OK split the second place finish.

Sarazen Flight:  Just off a red eye flight from the Pacific Northwest Championship at Chambers Bay, Jason Tatum of Harrison, AR, cleared the field by three strokes for his second win in his first year on tour.  Odessa, TX, player Joe Luman, a winner at TPC Craig Ranch, in 2012, and Preston Miller of Fort Worth, now a runner up his last three times at the track, split the second place finish.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Inspired by one of this playing partners front nine, Jones, OK, traveler, Stan Wilson kicked it into gear on his back, going -1 to pick up his second win at Craig Ranch.  One stroke back, Manny Martinez, a runner up his last time on the course, equaled his best finish of the season, with Lewisville, TX, member Mark Donohue a previous Champion of the event, rounding out the top three.

Jones Flight:  Fort Worth, TX, player Walter Albertson, a winner his first year on tour at the Arkansas Championship at Hot Springs Major, picked up his second win on the season, with plenty to spare.  Ten strokes back, Mike Camp of Edmond, OK, with birdie on the par 5 - 18th, took home the runner up honors, edging out first year Midlothian, TX, player Scott Chilcutt, with his best finish on tour, by one stroke.

Senior Jones Flight:  Arkansas Tour member, Craig Merrill of Roland, AR, has played TPC Craig Ranch three times.  All three, 2012, 2013 and today, had the same results, the championship.  Merrill, with the help of a birdie on the par 4 - 6th just cleared a pair of players tied up in the second place spot.  Terry Everts, of Eastland, TX, and McKinney, TX, player Ray Tyczki, out of commission since January, shared the runner up finish.

Snead Flight:  Tulsa, OK, player William Hughes became the first winner that had previously played the event without a win. Hughes a three time champion on the season, including the Red River Shootout at Winstar Major, finished thirteen strokes ahead of Thomas Rauch of Arlington, TX, and Fort Worth, TX, member Mike Welch, tied up in the runner up finish.
