Summer Series Underway in Dallas - Fairview Classic

Scott R Chilcutt, McKinney, TX (June 1, 2014) The Fairview Classic at Heritage Ranch opens the Summer Series points on the Dallas Tour and started what's bound to be a hot series.   Warm weather, just on the verge of getting into the hot season, welcomed players with excellent course conditions.  With summer time heat underway and spring's winds subsiding it looks like we will be out with the ice towels next time around.

Brent Nolan, made the best of the Srixon ball promotion and will receive a dozen of his choice, for winning the Jones flight, playing a Srixon ball.  William Hughes, went on to win the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Trophy Club, TX member, Andrew Braun was two strokes back making the turn, then played his back nine in even par with the help of consecutive birdies on the par 4 - 14th and par 4 -15th for his third win on the season, including the March Pinehurst Amateur Championship.  Coy Dobson of Dallas, played the back nine in one under par to share the runner up spot, his third in as many attempts, with Andrew Morsinkhoff of Rockwall, TX.

Palmer Flight:  Bart Slaughter from Dallas, started the day on the par 4 - 1st and ended on the par 4 - 18th with birdies, added one at the par 4 - 15th and commanded a seven stroke victory.  Diana, TX player Keith Childress finished his back nine in +3 for the runner up spot three strokes clear of a trio of players knotted in third.  Brenen Hofstadter of Frisco, TX, Lewisville, TX member Clay Johnston and Houston Tour player Dusty Rhodes of Deer Park, TX shared the third place finish.

Hogan Flight:   Mesquite, TX member Gabriel Brisco has now won all three events the Dallas Tour has competed at Heritage Ranch over the past three years.  Brisco, carded a couple of birdies on the round and played both sides in +3 each for a four stroke victory.  Joshua Cooper of Eustace, TX completed his best round on tour for the runner up spot, edging out Ranger, TX resident  Scott Harper by one stroke.  Harper equaled his best finish since winning two early in the points year including the December Winter Classic - Hill Country

Senior Hogan Flight:   Traveling Oklahoma Tour member, Bud Surber of Edmond, OK was cruising along with what appeared to be an easy win, until the par 5-17th.  Surber took a triple to go one stroke back of Jalil DaneshFar of Trophy Club, TX, but then rebounded with a par to even things up on the final hole, sending the pair back out to the 1st hole for the sudden death.  On the first hole, Surber was able to hold off DaneshFar to pick up his sixth win on tour and second of the season.  James Galbraith of Prosper, TX birdied the par 4 -15th to round out the top three, his second third place finish in as many attempts.

Sarazen Flight:   Jeff Workman of Fort Worth won his first event at Rock Creek in April and hasn't lost since, including The Sooner State Showdown Major Championship his last time out.  Workman started the day with a birdie at the par 4 -10th en route to a three stroke advantage for his third win, in as many attempts. Runner up, Oklahoma City tour traveler, Kerry Greer took a three stroke advantage over third place finisher Melvin Wilson III to the back nine and Wilson couldn't make up the ground finishing one stroke back.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Coming off a T6 finish in Austin on Saturday,  Burnie Rodgers of Haslet, TX starting on the tenth hole went out in +2 on two birdies and took a large enough lead to the back that no one could catch him, despite looking a little travel weary later in the round.  The three stroke win was Rodgers second on the season.  Jones, OK visitor, Stan Wilson finished in the runner up spot, with a triple rounding out the top three. Bob Moreau of Rockwall, TX birdied his final hole of the day to share the third place honors with Dale McFarland of Crowley, TX and Plano, TX resident Jamie Sansom.

Jones Flight:  Brent Nolan of Rockwall, TX and Euless, TX member, Vaughn Jackson matched front nine and back nine scores to require further play.  Nolan would prevail on the first extra hole for his first win on tour. Sven Bock of Garland, TX would birdie his last hole of the day, the par 4 - 18th to even up the score with  Matthew Ward of Lubbock, TX who birdied his first hole of the day, the par 4 - 10th to share the third place finish.

Senior Jones Flight:   Dallas, TX resident, Lloyd C Reid Jr put a score together to pick up his first local tour win adding to his 2013 Battle for Homestead II Major Championship.  Two strokes back, Jon Neff of Frisco, TX recorded his fourth runner up finish in a row, two strokes clear of the pair of  Luis Dayer of North Richland Hills, TX and Eulace, TX member Tom Stockton splitting the third place finish.

Snead Flight:   Steve Pearson of Plano, TX made it two for two, winning his first event on tour his last time out at the Arlington Championship @ Tierra Verde. Pearson kept the hammer down with a six stroke advantage over runner up Thomas Rauch of Arlington, TX. William Hughes of Tulsa, OK repeated his third place finish at Tierra Verde to round out the top three.
