Scott R Chilcutt, Carrollton, TX (March 29, 2013) Indian Creek Golf Club in the flats of Carrollton, TX, bordering the Elm Fork of the Trinity River has had a history on the Dallas Tour of early spring water. Some from the sky, like 2013 and some from the flooding in 2012. This year the course, a premier 36 hole daily fee facility, returned to host the third event of the calendar year on the local tour. Cool early morning light winds gave way to sun on the over seeded layout and had the ball rolling out to shorten the layout.
The Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving, went to Larry Tolson a Senior Jones member with Senior Palmer, Kem Albritton and Senior Sarazen player, Kirby Rogers just one stroke back.
RESULTS:
Championship Flight: First year player Greg Polledri of Southlake, TX seemed a little under dressed for the early morning chill, but got things warmed up with a birdie on the par 5 - 6th hole and played his final fifteen holes in even par to win his first event on tour. One stroke back, Dallas, TX resident Coy Dobson matched Polledri on the front, but gave up a stroke on the back for his best finish on tour. James Williams of Addison, TX in only his second event, sprinkled in four birdies on the day to finish two strokes out of the lead.
Palmer Flight: Brack Blackwood of Granbury, TX lead the field through the first nine holes, but opened the door for Clay Johnston of nearby Lewisville, TX to force extra holes when Johnston went +2 on the back. Starting on the par 4 - 10th for the sudden death playoff, Johnston made par for his fourth win on tour and first since the 2012 - Denver Tour Championship. Rowlett, TX player Gregory Haddon birdied the par 5 - 16th and looked to have the championship tied up, but ran into trouble on the next hole to finish one stroke back of the pair rounding out the top three.
Senior Palmer Flight: Inching closer to ten wins on the tour, Kem Albritton of Garland, TX commanded a six stroke victory. Albritton went out at one over par with the help of birdies on the par 3 - 5th and par 3 - 8th, came to the clubhouse +3 on the back for his ninth win on tour and second of the points season. Mark Taylor of Lewisville, TX, a runner up to Albritton at the November Bobcat Open @ Texas Star held on to the second place finish, one stroke clear of first time player, South Africa native, Nic Linde now residing in Keller, TX.
Hogan Flight: In what appeared to be the second playoff of the day, Navakiran Chitturi of McKinney, TX fell victim to a two stroke penalty on his starting hole to open the door for Midland, TX traveler, Jeff Blackwood, to claim his second win on tour. Blackwood with three birdies on the day finished two strokes ahead of the pair of Chitturi and first year player Darren Bufton of Bedford, TX, finishing T2 with the help of birdies on the par 5 - 6th and par 3 -14th.
Senior Hogan Flight: Bob Mulligan of Dallas, TX, playing in his second event, took sixteen strokes off his debut on tour to win his first event. Mulligan, with birdies on five holes on the day, edged out Trophy Club, TX member Jalil DaneshFar by one stroke. Three strokes back, the pair of Denver Roden of Irving, TX and Cleburne, TX resident, Michael Starks shared the third place honors.
Sarazen Flight: Hill Country Tour member, C.D. Dunem of San Antonio, TX made the trip north worthwhile, in many ways, to pick up his third win on Tour and second of the 2014 points season. Dunem, navigated the unfamiliar layout with the help of a birdie on the par 3 - 12th to lead a trio of players, three strokes back. Rockwall, TX member David Hickman, Jeff Workman of Fort Worth, TX and Bedford, TX resident, George Peddy played their way into sharing the runner up honors.
Senior Sarazen Flight: With only one blemish on the scorecard, Oklahoma Tour member, Kirby Rogers of Muldrow, OK picked up an unprecedented 25th win over a span of six years on tour and first since the August 2013 Oklahoma Tour Championship. Two strokes back, Mark Donohue of Lewisville, TX carded his best finish on the points season with Dale McFarland of Crowley, TX rounding out the top three.
Jones Flight: Larry Tolson of Fairview, TX made it two in a row, following up on his win at the St Patty's Day Challenge @ Lantana, with both wins coming since a promotion to the Senior Jones Flight. Tolson birdied the par 3 - 5th and par 4 - 7th for a seven stroke advantage over Tom Stockton of Euless, TX. One stroke back of Stockton, local Carrollton, TX member Scott Sears took home the third place honors.
Snead Flight: Haslet, TX player Doyle Fleming managed his round just well enough for a one stroke victory, his fourth on the points season. New Orleans native, Steve Pearson from Plano, TX carded his best finish on tour, with another Plano resident, Daniel Bohannon taking the third place finish in his first outing on tour.
