Championship at Las Colinas

Scott R Chilcutt, Irving, TX (August 12, 2013)  The Dallas Tour on the Golf Channel Am Tour came back to Las Colinas Country Club after a year off the schedule. Las Colinas, one of the first planned communities in the US, is a mixed use upscale area in the heart of Irving, TX.  Las Colinas Country Club originally a ranch owned by Las Colinas founder Ben Carpenter, the Golf Course grew from land selected by golf course designer Joe Finger.  Site of the 2013 North Texas LPGA Shootout where Inbee Park picked up her third win on the year, the club also hosts the annual George W. Bush Presidential Center's Warrior Open for retired and active duty military.

Rolling Hills, tight fairways, and lush rough went along with fluffy traps to challenge all the clubs in the player's bag.  Curtis Sinclair of Amarillo, TX took home the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  The last time the Am Tour played at LCCC in 2011, Tim Williams of McKinney, TX was a Hogan Flight player.  Two promotions later, along with the 2011 National Championship, Williams picked up his first Championship Flight win with the help of three birdies on the day.  Three strokes back, John Bohling of Highland Village, TX recorded his fourth runner up finish on the year to go with a win at the Fairview Classic @ Heritage Ranch.  Midland, TX points leader Terry Rice jumped into the third place finish with a birdie on the par 5 -18th.

Palmer Flight:   Dallas, TX member Cameron Kirkpatrick on a tear this year with only one finish out of the top five picked up his second win on tour by four strokes over Clay Johnston of Lewisville, TX. First year player Michael Starks of Cleburne, TX carded his best finish on tour in the third spot.   Kirkpatrick jumped into second place on the Order of Merit points standings with the win.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Fresh off a flight promotion, Jim Sumner of Odessa, TX went +1 over his last four holes to jump into a playoff with North Richland Hills, TX resident David Alan Wood.  On the first sudden death hole, Sumner grabbed his first win as a Palmer and fifth of the year, including two Major Championships.   Order of Merit Points leader, Sean Fenton of Fort Worth, TX rounded out the top three.

Hogan Flight: With a birdie on his first hole of the day, the par 5 -10th, Jeff Blackwood of Midland, TX added another at the par 3 - 17th and became a first time winner on tour. Tim Edwards of Amarillo, TX matched Blackwood on his back nine, but couldn't make up the one stroke deficit on the front and ended up in second place.  Scott Harper of Ranger, TX birdied the par 3 - 6th and par 5 - 7th for the show position finish.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Jalil DaneshFar of Trophy Club, TX picked up his sixth win on tour and third of the season. One stroke back, Argyle, TX member Paul Burleson used an eagle two on the par 4 - 14th, added a birdie on the par 4 - 8th to card his second runner up finish in the last three attempts.  Local Irving, TX player Denver Roden, with a pair of birdies of his own, rounded out the top three.

Sarazen Flight:  Plano, TX member Dave Ducray birdied the first hole, added one on the par 3 - 17th and went out in +4 for his fourth win on tour and first of the season.  With the win, Ducray jumped into a tie for the Flight Championship with runner up Melvin Wilson III of Dallas, TX three strokes off the pace.  Odessa, TX player Joe Luman birdied his ninth hole of the day to finish in the third spot by one stroke.

Senior Sarazen:  In his second year on tour, heavily traveled Lake Kiowa, TX player Davis Noble made his #24th event a special one, picking up his first win on tour.  Noble had a couple of birdies on the day and outlasted a pair tied up in the second place finish by four strokes.  Two Oklahoma Tour players, regulars on the Dallas circuit,  Mark Helms of Broken Bow, OK and Jones, OK resident Stan Wilson shared the runner up honors.

Jones Flight:  Off the tour since 2010,  Amarillo, TX member Curtis Sinclair picked up his second win and first since the 2010  Canyon West Shootout.  Six strokes back, Order of Merit Points leader,  Nick Easen of Keller, TX will opt out of the Tour Championship and take with him 4 wins on the year to the National Championships.  Rowlett, TX member Robert Glittenberg rounded out the top three for his eighth top five finish of the year.

Snead Flight:   Don Freitag of Arlington, TX carded his seventh win on tour and second on the season.  With birdies on the par 3 - 6th and par 5 - 7th, Freitag ran away with a four stroke win over a pair of Dallas Tour Senior Snead flight players.  Sharing the runner up spot, Doyle Fleming of Haslet, TX a recent winner at the Western Classic Major and North Richland Hills, TX member Luis Dayer a runner up at the Texas Open at Barton Creek.
