Scott R Chilcutt, Fairview, TX (June 10, 2012) The Heritage Ranch Classic was the last Dallas Tour event before our Major Championship break for the Red River Shootout at Winstar on June 23rd/24th. The Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club located in the middle of the Heritage Ranch, just 25 minutes northeast of Dallas is a gated community for active adults 55 and older.
90 Players from Arkansas, Dallas, Houston, the Hill Country and Virginia took on the Arthur Hills design that played firm and fast with hot and humid sunny skies and variable winds. Scoring for most was a challenge with the tricky layout but those with the ability to keep it in the short grass were awarded. Britt McMullen won the score card playoff for the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders over Gabriel Briscoe and Mike Logsdon.
RESULTS:
Championship Flight: Going out in two over and coming to the club house in two over would be enough for Eric Swanson from Plano, TX to pick up his first win. Swanson would birdie the par four 10th hole but needed a bogey save on the 18th to stay one stroke clear of Rockwall, TX member Andrew Morsinkhoff. Chad Johnson from Cleburne, TX would finish in the show position just one stroke back.
Palmer Flight: Ivan Zweig from Dallas, TX holed out for an eagle two on the first hole in route to his first win on tour since the The Texas Star Fall Open in November of 2010. Zweig would add three birdies on the round to finish with a +3 - 75 three strokes clear of the pair of Michael Rutkoski from McKinney and Grandbury, TX member Burt Preissinger.
Senior Palmer Flight: Fort Worth, TX player Sean Fenton grabbed his second win on the season by one stroke over Michael Fee from Mansfield. Fee played the back nine in two over par, but couldn't overcome some early round struggles to get the win. Four strokes back Danny Nicholls, also from Mansfield, TX rounded out the top three.
Hogan Flight: Scott Harper from Ranger, TX picked up his third win on the season by a stroke despite a penalty stroke on one of the greens for mis hitting his ball. One stroke back Stephen Cannon from Dallas and Brownwood, TX resident Brenton Fillers shared the second place spot.
Senior Hogan Flight: Edmond, OK traveler James Surber followed up a runner up finish in Tulsa on Saturday with his first win on tour. Greg Sheppard from Carrollton, TX shot a one over par 37 on the back with the help of a couple of birdies to stay within one stroke of Surber for second place. Argyle, TX member Paul Burleson finished in the third spot to widen his Player of the Year Points lead.
