The Open @ The Tribute - Born in Scotland... Built in America

Scott R Chilcutt, The Colony, TX (April 29, 2012)  Inspired by the greatest holes from St. Andrews, Troon and Prestwick in Scotland, The Tribute, in the Colony, TX  is set on a peninsula on the Lake Dallas shores. With that lakeside location you can usually add about 10 mph to the DFW Metroplex wind forecasts and Sunday was no exception when record setting registrants took to the course for The Open at The Tribute.

Sanger, TX member Stephen Killion paced the field for the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders, over a threesome of players that all won their respective flights.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Four birdies on the back nine propelled Oklahoma Tour, Senior Championship player, Curt Howard from Sapulpa, OK into the winners circle over 17 players to turn in cards at the scorers table.  Howard, fresh off his National Championship Qualifying third place finish at the Lake of the Ozarks Classic last week broke the winning streak of Midland, TX member Terry Rice.  Rice a winner at both Dallas events he's entered this year was a single stroke back and one stroke clear of third place, first time player, Scott Blackshear from Hideaway, TX.

Palmer Flight:  A winner every time he's stepped on the tee on the AM Tour this year, Guy Nickels from Keller, TX went three for three.  The Major Champion at Texas Open at Horseshoe Bay  in March, Nickels was able to stay one stroke clear of another perennial winner on the Dallas Tour, Tim Williams from McKinney.  Jeremy Henson from Midland, TX was able to keep a two stroke distance over a pair tied in the fourth spot to round out the top three.

Senior Palmer Flight:  After a couple of runner up finishes on the year,  Rick Froebe from Plano, TX picked up his first win on tour.  Froebe, with 11 par's and 7 bogey's on his round, stayed away from the big scores to stay ahead of multiple 2012 winner Michael Morgan from Shreveport, LA.  Just a single stroke back, Odessa, TX first year member, Jim Sumner carded his best finish on tour in the show position.

Hogan Flight:  Frisco, TX player Chad Maynard snatched his first win since the 2009 Riverside Open over five time 2012 winner (and soon to be Palmer Player) Brack Blackwood from Grandbury, TX by one stroke.  Blackwood recorded two birdies to stay three strokes clear of a trio tied for the third spot.  The pair from Dallas, Stephen Cannon and Cameron Kirkpatrick along with Van Alstyne, TX member Chris Murray knotted up the third spot.

Senior Hogan Flight:   Paul Burleson from Argyle, TX recorded his first win on the tour by five strokes.  Burleson, carded four birdies on the day to lead a pair of players snared in the second spot.  Multiple tour winner Gregory Stairs and back on tour after recent surgery, Danny Nicholls stayed clear of the nearest competitors by five strokes to tie up the second spot.

Sarazen Flight:   Starting his day on the 12th hole, Dave Ducray from Plano, TX finished his last six holes in one under par to record his third win on tour by a single stroke over Ranger, TX member Scott Harper.  Carding three birdies on the day, Harper the current Merit Points leader in the Sarazen flight finished one stroke clear of Gabriel Brisco from Mesquite, TX who rounded out the top three.

Senior Jones Flight:  One week from his first Major Championship playoff win at the Lake of the Ozarks Classic, Ron Hardy from Lewisville, TX kept his momentum going.  With three birdies on the day Hardy recorded his first Dallas Tour win by a single stroke over Wylie, TX member Mike Logsdon.  Logsdon, with his best finish on tour stayed clear of Phillip White from Justin, TX by three strokes.
