Appropriate as we end the "Green Is Universal" week where NBCUniversal announced a commitment to sustainability across the entire company. The Golf Channel and the USGA pointed out many ways that golf courses contribute to that sustainability, including "Golf Course Roughs and Trees Create Good Wildlife Habitat". In addition to using Reclaimed Water from the Village Creek Treatment Plant in Fort Worth the wildlife was evident at Texas Star Golf Course on Saturday where the local bobcats made their presence known.
Bolaji Harris shot his career low round to pick up the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders.
RESULTS:
Championship Flight: First time tour player Chad Johnson from Cleburne, TX made sure everyone knew he was on the course after draining a shot from the fairway for eagle on the par 4 - 1st hole. Johnson would go to birdie the 11th and 17th holes to pick up the win, one stroke clear of another first time player, Southlake, TX member Shamus O'Shea. 2011 Player of the year Andrew Morsinkhoff from Rockwall, TX played the front in even par but gave the lead back to the field with a trio of triples on the back and finished in the third spot.
Palmer Flight: Adrian DelaGarza of Coppel, TX picked up his second win on tour by 2 strokes over Dallas resident Ivan Zweig. Zweig's birdie on the par 4-15th hole knotted up the pair but would later run into trouble on the 18th to open the lead when DelaGarza finished with a par. Kem Albritton Garland, TX birdied the par 5-18th to tie up the third place points with Tulsa, OK member Brook Lister.
Hogan Flight: Senior Hogan players took two of the three top spots. Gregory Stairs from Mansfield, TX finished the last four holes in one over par to take the top spot by one stroke over Corsicana, TX Mid-Am player Patrick Gent by one stroke. Frisco, TX Senior Player Roger Davis rounded out the top three, two strokes ahead of a foursome tied for fourth.
Sarazen Flight: Ranger, TX member Scott Harper grabbed the third win in his last four attempts. Coming off a win at the Tour Championship @ Cowboy in August, Harper birdied the 13th and 15th to build a cushion before a triple on the 17th hole to stay three strokes clear of Grand Prairie, TX member Nancy Geihl. Patrick Gutridge Hurst, TX and newly promoted Longview, TX player Darrin Howard shared third place honors.
Senior Sarazen Flight: Jerrell Neely from Richland Hills, TX picked up his second win on tour and first since his thumb tangled with a saw last summer putting him out of commission for the tour championship. Fresh off a win in Houston, Sanger, TX member Steve Killion and Bob Moreau from Plano locked up the 2nd place finish two strokes back and two strokes clear of Kaufman, TX member, Jeff Carter.
Jones Flight: Haslet, TX player Burnie Rodgers would stay out of bobcat territory enough to take home the trophy by three strokes over Nick Easen from Keller, TX. Red River Challenge @ WinStar Champion Bob Eustice from Garland started off hot with birdies on 3 and 9. Holding on to the lead through 11 holes, Eustce found trouble coming back to the club house and finsihed T3 with Brandon Litzner from Coppell, TX.
Snead Flight: Bolaji Harris of Richardson, TX shot a career low round to snare his first win on tour with the help of darkness. Finishing a group ahead of Harris, Fort Worth, TX member Douglas Pritchett was the leader in the club house, but the pair ended up tied after regulation forcing a scorecard playoff. One stroke back of the pair, The Woodlands, TX traveler Jim Lamberth and McKinney, TX player Larry Tolson tied up the third spot.
