Scott R Chilcutt, Edmond, OK (April 12, 2011) The Callaway Order of Merit Points and ultimate Champion have a number of meanings on the National level, but also the local level.
First some changes from the past. The AM Tour previously had a policy that you could only accumulate points equal to the number of tournaments in your local tour. So for arguments sake, Dallas had 12 but you played in 24, you would only accumulate points of the BEST 12 events. That was a MANUAL process and many local directors didn't go through that process.
In order to standardize that across the country that policy was changes this year and is part of the player handbook that you can download the HERE.
Tour Players may compete in as many tournaments as they choose, however, only the best 8 finishes will count for the Callaway Order of Merit race in order to identify the player who is having the best season, per flight. For example, Tour Player A plays in 10 tournaments of 11+ players and finishes in 3rd place each time (10 tournaments x 100 points). Tour Player A will have accrued 1000 total points, but his total for the Callaway Order of Merit would be 800 points (8 x 100 is 800 points).
At a National Level the winner from each flight on our local tour qualifies for the National Championship and is placed in the Callaway Order of Merit Qualifier status. Winning at the Nationals now takes on new meaning as winning the Tour Staff Package brings bundle of prizes.
On the Local Level we have now secured a sponsor for our Order of Merit Champions, where we will present a customized Callaway Staff Bag to each player taking the flight championship. One exception to the rule above is that the 8 tournaments points will come from the Dallas Fort / Worth tournaments only.
Look for more information shortly on our new sponsors and the Year End Awards.
