TPC Craig Ranch Headlines 2011 Schedule on the DFW Tour

DFW Tour New Year’s Resolutions, Part II, Scheduling
Scott R Chilcutt, DFW Tour (January 3, 2011) Prices, Venues, Saturday vs. Sunday, Major Events and the National Championship all come in to play when we set out to put together a local tour schedule.  This year with the DFW tour we had a few more challenges stepping into the saddle in late November but we are very proud of what’s been put together.
Some of the highlights:
National Championship – Major Events:
This year, like 2010 we have to have our points championships awarded by August 31st for National Championship qualification. PGA West, will once again host the National’s, September 18th – 21st when the seniors compete and the mid-ams’ will take the stage from September 24th – 27th.

Major events in the South Central Region, include: The Texas Open @ Horseshoe Bay on March 5th and 6th. May 21st and 22nd we have an event at a venue yet to be announced then on to Texas Masters @ TPC San Antonio on June 4th and 5th with the Texas Shootout @ Redstone Golf Club on August 6th and 7th.
Venues:
While the path of least resistance would be to simply call clubs we played in 2010 and rebook a similar schedule, we’ve never been accused of taking the easy way out.  With the wealth of available golf courses in the greater DFW area it’s important that we return to the best venues, add in some selected courses and just stay away from others.  Sometimes scheduling gets in the way, just the other day I was set to book a golf course for a date, but with further investigation found they were punching the greens just 5 days before, needless to say that course wasn’t booked this year.
We return to old faithful locations like, The Tribute, Tour 18, Stonebriar Fazio and Cowboy we’ve added TPC Craig Ranch, The Cliffs at Possum Kingdom and Twin Lakes in Canton.  In addition to the mix we’ve added, Tangle Ridge, Coyote Ridge and Champions Circle all for an average fee of just $118 / event when the lowest fees in 2010 were $129.
Entry Fees:
Most members and potential members cite the costs and length of rounds.  We will address the pace of play in a later blog but one thing we set out to do this year was get our costs down.  We didn’t do that by cutting corners, on the contrary we have selected days that in some cases were less desirable to the golf course, but with mutual planning and cooperation we’ve been able to reduce the fees to the members.
Same venue pricing has gone down an average of $22.50 per round over 2010 pricing for a total savings of over 15%.
We hope everyone had a great last few holiday weeks, look for our Tournament Operations and Membership installments in the coming days and if I can do anything for you, please let me know.
