Stonebridge Ranch Country Club for The Dye Classic

Scott R Chilcutt, McKinney, TX (3/28/2016)   Pete Dye designed the Dye Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club, taking advantage of the topography.  What design work went into the layout has been preserved by the course superintendent and maintenance staff to create a true test of golf. Tightly mown fairways and tough green complexes, just added to the railroad tie banked water hazards and knee high grasses bordering fairways and greens set things up for a tough day.

Scott Stiegel, of Southlake, TX, carded his first career hole in one on the par 3 - 8th hole, from a wind adjusted 162 yards with a seven iron.

Melvin Wilson, III (Hogan Flight) was "Up for the Srixon Challenge", winning his prospective flight playing a Srixon ball and will get a dozen sent to him for the win. Jason Weisenburg, grabbed the win for the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving  The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $390, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tours to $3,850 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Local, McKinney, TX, member Tim Williams made the best of his short drive to the course.  Williams, the 2011 National Champion in the Hogan Flight, added to his winnings, bringing the total championships on tour to seven, and third as a Championship Flight player, winning two times at Las Colinas Country Club.  Three strokes back, Fort Worth, TX, player, Andrew Bachelder, the winner of the 2015 Warrior Open at Las Colinas, the same course Williams has had AM Tour success.  Bachelder split the runner up finish with David Wright of Flower Mound, TX.

Palmer Flight:  Starting out strong, with two birdies on his four holes, Scott Harper of Ranger, TX, looked to have things moving in his direction.  Marginal play after that still held him in the lead, but a ten on the par 4 - 18th looked to undo the championship. Help from the runner up allowed Harper to pick up his thirteenth win on tour.   Argyle, TX, player Greg Hawkins finished just one stroke back, despite trouble at 15 and 16, with a pair of players nipping at his heels. Visiting Minnesota AM Tour Director, Bruce Addleman, of Prior Lake, MN, with a birdie on the par 3 - 12th, split the third place finish with Dallas, TX, resident, Tony Peppler, picking up a birdie and closest to the hole on the par 3 - 17th.

Hogan Flight:  Dallas, TX, member Melvin Wilson, III, out of action for a short time, came back to the tour with a vengeance.  Starting on the 10th hole, Wilson came out of the gate with a birdie on the par 4 - 10th, added birdies at the par 4 - 1st and par 5 - 3rd to solidify his seventh win on tour.  Just a single stroke back, Kirk Boerner, of Fort Worth, TX, a winner in the fall at the Fall Championship at Hawks Creek split the runner up honors with Lewisville, TX, player Shawn Whitaker, with a birdie on the par 4 - 6th to card his best finish in the last year.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Coming off a win on Saturday on the Oklahoma Tour, Kirby Rogers of Muldrow, OK, picked up his second win in as many attempts.  Rogers, with a birdie on the par 5 - 7th did just what it would take to hold a two stroke lead over Dallas Tour player, Jalil Daneshfar, of Trophy Club, TX, and Oklahoma Tour competitor, Bud Surber, of Edmond, OK, splitting the runner up finish.

Sarazen Flight:  Heath, TX, member, Jason Weisenburg, nearly lapped the field with an eight stroke advantage, with the help of two birdies on the day.  Visiting, Gulf Coast Tour player, Douglas Key of Daphne, AL, took care of the second place finish, with Texas Open Major Championship winner, Wadsworth, Jarrell, rounding out the top three.
Senior Sarazen Flight:  Looking to have the championship in hand, traveling Oklahoma Tour member, Stan Wilson of Jones, OK, took a triple 7 on the par 4 - 18th to even the score with Plano, TX, player Jamie Sansom.  Back to the par four ninth for the playoff, Sansom would prevail with a par after Wilson lipped out to extend the playoff.  For Sansom, battling health issues, it was his twelfth win on tour and first since 2013.  Crowley, TX, resident, Dale McFarland, rounded out the top three with the help of a birdie on the par 5 - 3rd, his best finish of the season.

Jones Flight:  Hurst, TX, player Tommy Templin, used two birdies on the day, at the par 3 - 5th and par 4 - 15th to pick up his second win on tour and first of the points season.  Lloyd Reid, JR, of Dallas, TX,  used a birdie on the par 3 - 12th to solidify the second place finish, two strokes ahead of Fairview, TX, player Larry Tolson.

Snead Flight:  Traveling Hill Country Tour player, Mark Colwell of Selma, TX, grabbed his thirteenth win on tour and second in as many attempts after winning the Prelude to the Texas Open at Barton Creek Lakeside his last time out. William Hughes of Tulsa, OK finished just three strokes back with two time winner on the season Joshua Tankersley, of Fort Worth, TX,  rounding out the top three.

Chasing the River - River Chase on the Dallas Tour

Scott R Chilcutt, Coppell, TX (March 12, 2016)  Riverchase Golf Club, just below the dams at Lake Lewisville and Grapevine Lake on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, has some challenges.  Without a full eighteen holes for the majority of the year because of flooding that creates access problems, the Corps of Engineers granted the tour and the course a reprieve for the weekend.  With the forecast of rain up to and including the event, waters out of the dam were limited to a trickle.

Cloudy and occasional mist greeted players to a sloppy, cart path only course.  While the day turned into perfect, slightly breezy conditions, the course still challenged even the best of ball strikers, looking for a dry spot to land the ball.

Pete Partain (Jones Flight) picked up the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving.  The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, grabbed $250, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tours to $2,860, contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Wylie, TX, member, Dallas Webster, played the back nine in one over par to take it to extra holes with Nick Quast of Trophy Club, TX.  Back in the DFW area, Quast, in the East Bay of San Francisco since 2013,  made the best of the playoff, winning on the first hole of the sudden death, for his sixth win on tour.  First time local player, Eric Gussenhoven of Carrollton, TX, Bedford, TX, member RJ Foltz and David Wright, of Flower Mound, TX, split the third place honors.

Palmer Flight:  Clay Johnston of Lewisville, TX, picked up his second win in as many attempts bringing his total tour championships to eight career wins.  One stroke back, Ranger, TX, player Scott Harper, with a birdie on the par 5 - 4th, brought home the runner up spot, with Senior Palmer player, Kem Albritton, of Garland, TX, using two birdies on the day to round out the top three.

Hogan Flight:  Self reported to playing the course 25 times a year, Darren Bufton of Bedford, TX, used every bit of the previous experience to guide his way to his eighth win on tour and first of the season. Fort Worth, TX, Kirk Boerner, winning his first time of the points season at Hawks Creek in November,  finished four strokes back, with a birdie on the par 4 - 10th.  Adam Donahue of Summerville, SC, finished in third with the help of two birdies on the day.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Odessa, TX, player Kent Mccord was edged out the field for his first win on tour.  Mccord, with a birdie on the par 3 - 8th, finished just one stroke ahead of Scott Harris of Fort Worth, TX.  Jalil DaneshFar of Trophy Club, TX and Carrollton, TX member Rick Swanson shared the third place finish.

Sarazen Flight:  On tour since 2009, Nick Easen, the 2013 National Champion, carded his fifteenth win on tour.  Using a birdie on the par 4 - 9th, Easen cruised to a four stroke win over second place finisher Eric Chavers of Walker, LA, with a birdie on the par 5 - 11th.  Fort Worth, TX, player Preston Miller rounded out the top three with a birdie on the par 5 - 4th.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Mark Donohue of Lewisville, TX, only out of the winners circle with one runner up spot and four wins in five attempts seems destined for a "Journey to Better" promotion.  Donohue, picked up his eighth win on tour and fourth of the points season, by two strokes over Rodney Wren of Dallas, TX.   Wren with five runner up finishes on seven events on the season was just out of the winners circle once again. Lake Kiowa, TX, member Davis Noble picked up his best finish of the year, rounding out the top three.

Jones Flight:  Bedford, TX, player Pete Partain, became a first time winner, with the assistance of two birdies on the day, clearing the flight by five strokes.  Jeff Ackerman, SR, of Wylie, TX,  Tommy Templin of Hurst, TX, and traveling Leander, TX player, Melissa Wood shared the runner up honors.

Dallas Tour Starts The Year With a Reprieve at Iron Horse

Scott R Chilcutt, North Richland Hills, TX (February 28, 2016)  "Weather plagued Dallas Opener" was NOT the headline this time a round.

Over the past five years, the Dallas Tour has opened it's calendar year schedule at Tangle Ridge for the Grand Prairie Classic then moving to Iron Horse Golf Course in North Richland Hills, TX, for a change of luck, but the change in 2015 didn't help, with a continuation of cold, rain and wet conditions on the menu. 2016 introduced tour players to a February event, with light winds and warm conditions, unlike any we have seen in the recent history.

Joshua Tankersly, grabbed the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving, with a net -3.

The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, grabbed $390, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tours to $1,820 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  First time tour player, Clark Collier from Dallas, TX, put fourteen pars on the board to offset a double and three bogies for a two stroke victory.  Flower Mound, TX, member David Wright picked up his best finish on tour since his self promotion from the Palmer Flight, with the help of a birdie on the par 4 - 13th.  One stroke back of Wright, Dallas Webster of Wylie, TX, made three birdies on the front nine, added another on the back to round out the top three.

Palmer Flight:  Lewisville, TX, member, Clay Johnston, grabbed his seventh win on tour and first of the season with three birdies on the round.  Two strokes back, the pair of Todd Arnold of Fort Worth, with three birdies on the day, including the tough par 3 - 17th, and Ranger, TX, member Scott Harper shared the runner up honors.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Whitney, TX, player JD Price, made it two for two after backing up his 2015 wins at The Golf Club of Houston and last years Iron Horse Open.  It was Price's seventh win on tour. Michael Rutkoski of McKinney, TX finished in the runner up spot just one stroke back and two strokes ahead of Crawford, TX player Keven Vansau rounding out the top three.

Hogan Flight:  Bobby Duty, of Midland, TX, picked up his first win, in his first year back on tour after a hiatus.  Duty, with a birdie on the par 4 - 16th held on to a two stroke advantage over Spring, TX, player Gus Aldana, and Mesquite, TX player Gabe Brisco both with a birdie of their own on the day.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Midlothian, TX member, Jeff Bolton and Trophy Club, TX, player Jalil DaneshFar, needed extra holes to finish the score.  Back to #17, the pair had to make the trip to #18 two more times before DaneshFar, won the sudden death with a par.  It was Jalil's tenth win on tour and first of the season.  Late entry to the event off the waiting list, Scott Harris of Fort Worth, TX, rounded out the top three two strokes back.

Sarazen Flight:  In the second of three playoffs on the afternoon, traveling Oklahoma Tour member, Carter Green of Oklahoma City, OK, and Richardson, TX, player Sven Bock, needed a sudden death playoff to claim the championship.  After two extra holes, Bock would carry home the trophy with a bogie on the 18th for his second win on the points season and sixth on tour. Bryan Hodges, a first time player from Dallas, TX, finished just one stroke out of the playoff for the third place finish.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Nearby Richland Hills, TX, resident Tim Brown, Mark Donohue of Lewisville, TX, and Jones, OK, traveler, Stan Wilson needed to traverse back to the 17th to settle the score.  Brown, went out after the first playoff hole, leaving the 18th to only Donuhue and Wilson, where Donohue would make par to close out the flight championship.  For Donohue it was his eighth win on tour, but more importantly, his third on the season, stamping his ticket to the Senior National Championship.

Jones Flight: First year player, Robert Williams of Fort Worth, TX, made the most of a birdie on the par 4 - 13th to pick up the win by three strokes over a pair knotted in the runner up spot.  Wylie, TX, member Jeff Ackerman, SR, with a birdie on the par 3 - 14th and Tommy Templin of Hurst, TX, shared second place finish.
