Arlington Championship @ Tierra Verde

Scott R Chilcutt, Arlington TX (April 21, 2013)  Just one day before the beginning of Earth Day and Earth Week with the Golf Channel Green is Universal initiative that focuses on bringing an environmental perspective to golf, it's only appropriate the the Dallas Tour play the Arlington Championship at Tierra Verde Golf Club.

Tierra Verde was the first golf course in Texas and first municipal course in the world to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary.  Unlike most municipal courses, Tierra Verde is carved into 250 acres of secluded terrain on the south side of the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex where the natural settings make you feel thousands of miles away.

Ron Hardy of Lewisville, TX returned home with the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving, after delivering it just a few days earlier.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Keller, TX member Ken Dyke finished out with a career low round on the AM Tour.  Four birdies to go with an eagle three on the par 5 -8th was just enough to get his first win on tour. The Flower Mound Open @ Bridlewood winner,  Sean Skellenger of Dallas kept pace with three birdies of his own, added an eagle at the par 5 - 14th to end just one stroke back.  Midland, TX Merit Points leader Terry Rice rounded out the top three.

Palmer Flight:  Gregory Haddon of Rowlett, TX shot a tournament low, even par round with four birdies to even out the four bogie's on the round to nearly lap the field for his second win on the year. Eight strokes back, Saturday's winner in the Hill Country, Brack Blackwood of Grandbury, TX finished in the runner up spot, three strokes ahead of Dallas resident Ivan Zweig

Senior Palmer Flight:  Hard charging Mansfield, TX player Michael Fee came back to the clubhouse -2, with three birdies on the back nine to force a playoff with Sean Fenton of Fort Woth, TX.  Fenton, with three birdies on the day himself, finished out the extra holes for his seventh win on tour and second of the points season.  Neal Iverson of Irving, TX followed up his third place spot his last time out with another show position finish.

Senior Hogan Flight:   Trohpy Club, TX resident Jalil DaneshFar became another five time winner on tour, adding to his points year win in the fall at the Fall Championship at Champions Circle.  DaneshFar stayed just ahead of Jim Sumner of Odessa, TX playing the back nine in even par on birdies at the par 5 -13th and par 4 17th.  Paul Burleson of Argyle, TX rounded out the top three, one stroke back of Sumner.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Jamie Sansom of Frisco, TX came to the registration asking if we could go back to Frisco Lakes, since he's seemed to have success there.  What he forgot is his success on the south side of the Metroplex.  A winner at the February Grand Prairie Classic @ Tangle Ridge, Sansom was one over on the front with three birdies on the day to hold a three stroke advantage over first year player Gerald McElvy of Southlake, TX.  Patrick Gutridge of Hurst, TX rounded out the top three with birdies on the par 5 -8th and par 4 -12th.

Tricky at Bridlewood - Flower Mound Open

Scott R Chilcutt, Flower Mound, TX (April 7, 2013)   Bridlewood Golf Club made its debut on the Golf Channel Am Tour for this first Flower Mound Open on the Dallas Tour.  Flower Mound is located 20 miles northwest of Dallas and 25 miles northeast of Fort Worth on the basin of the Trinity River.  Named for a 12.5-acre hill approximately 50 feet in height located on the south side of town, the formation attracted the attention of early settlers to the area, and is often simply referred to as "The Mound".

Longtime PGA Tour Pro D.A. Weibring designed the course and was quoted as saying,  "There isn’t a golf course similar to Bridlewood in the entire Metroplex. With fairways surrounding each green, chipping plays a big role".   And what a role the short game played.  Greens recently converted to Tif-Eagle Bermuda from Cato-Crenshaw bentgrass, were hard to hold, coupled with the gusting winds and low ball flight required to get to the surface added to the short game requirements.

Coming off his first flight win at the Classic @ The Creek - Indian Creek Golf Club, Euless, TX player Vaughn Jackson picked up the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving.   Giant skins winners came from the Championship, Hogan, Senior Sarazen and Jones flights.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Birdie on the final hole was just enough for Dallas Tour rookie,  Sean Skellenger to record his first win on tour.  Skellenger bounced back from a quad eight on the par 4 -7th with a birdie on the next hole together with three additional birdies on the day to win by a single stroke over a trio of players one back.  John Bohling of Highland Village, TX,  Trophy Club, TX member Andrew Braun and John Long from Allen, TX shared the second place honors.

Palmer Flight:   Ivan Zweig of Dallas, went two under par on the first six holes, made a ten on the par 4 -7th, but regained his composure to play the back nine in one over to win by a stroke.  Zweig bettered his last three runner up finishes for his first win on the season and fourth on tour.  Fort Worth part time resident, Tony Eno a regular on the Hill Country Tour, finished in the runner up spot for the second time in as many attempts, two strokes clear of a pair in the show position.  Clay Johnston of Denver, CO soon to be relocating back to the Dallas area and Rowlett, TX member Gregory Haddon split the third place finish.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Knocking on the winning door with two runner up finishes and a T3 in his first year on tour,  Dave Kirby of Edmond, OK went one over on the front nine with three birdies on the day to win his first. Another first year member Bossier City, LA player Mike Hollier finished in the runner up spot, three strokes back with Neal Iverson of Irving, TX rounding out the top three.

Jones Flight:  Opting out of the Giant Skins,  Vaughn Jackson of Dallas, TX made the only eagle of the event on the par 5 -2nd hole and added a birdie on the par 5 -13th for his second win on tour in as many attempts.  Yukon OK member Gary Chrisman of the Oklahoma Tour took six shots off his front nine score on the difficult back to share the second place finish with Houston Tour traveler, Kris Bixby of Katy, TX.  Bixby bounced back from a quad on the par 4 - 14th with a birdie on the par 5 - 16th to go even par over his last four holes to even things up.

Easter Weekend - Frisco Lakes Challenge

Early morning storms dumped an inch of rain on the golf course, but didn't wash out the scores at Frisco Lakes Challenge.

Scott R Chilcutt, Frisco, TX (March 30, 2013)  The Golf Club at Frisco Lakes went through an ownership change just before the 2012 event and they were eager to have us back in 2013.  While the early spring chills have the Bermuda still in the dormant state, the overnight rains helped soften the course allowing for more yardage accuracy over the previous days roll out during practice rounds.  Cart path only and some sloppy conditions slowed down the pace, but the patient players took the course, the light breezes and partly warming day with enthusiasm. Over 25% of the field played to their handicap or better.

Mike Adcock of Saginaw, TX took home his first Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving, two strokes ahead of visiting Louisiana Tour player Douglas Key.  Giant skins were won by two Palmer and one Hogan Flight players.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Battling late 2012 injuries, Scott Blackshear of Hideaway, TX came off a twelfth place finish at the Classic @ The Creek - Indian Creek Golf Club  to pick up his second win on tour.  Two birdies on the day was just enough to stay one stroke ahead of Wylie, TX member Dallas Webster.  Webster left an eagle putt just short on the final hole for his best finish on tour since the 2012 Casper Challenge @ Bear Creek where he finished T2.  Two strokes back, the four players knotted up in the third place finish included, Marshall Morgan of Odessa, TX,  Grapvine, TX resident Nick QuastTony Peppler of Dallas and Terry Rice from Midland, TX.

Palmer Flight:  Back on tour after a few years off, Fort Wayne, IN native, Gregory Haddon now residing in Rowlett, TX finished his final hole with a birdie to win by two strokes.  Ivan Zweig of Dallas went out in three over, started his back nine with two birdies in four holes to finish in the runner up spot for the third straight event this year.  Cameron Kirkpatrick also from Dallas bested his fourth place finish at the 2012 Frisco Lakes Challenge rounding out the top three.

Senior Palmer Flight:   Lewisville, TX first year tour member Mark Taylor birdied his final hole to grab his second win and first since a promotion to the Palmer Flight.  Dave Kirby of Edmond, OK captured the runner up spot for the second time in as many attempts with a par on his final hole.  Playing alongside Kirby, Houston Tour visitor,  Allan Collier of Sugar Land, TX birdied his second to last hole to tie it up, but bogeyed the final hole to finish one stroke back in third.

Hogan Flight:   After a last minute cancellation, local Frisco, TX member Chad Maynard took advantage of his spot, winning for the fourth time on tour.  Maynard with a pair of birdies, finished one stroke clear of Grand Prairie, TX player Nancy Geihl.  Giehl, third in the Tour Order of Merit Points,  finished one stroke ahead of Gabriel Brisco of Mesquite, TX in the show position finish.

Senior Hogan Flight:  It took a round and a third (25 holes) for Randy Sellers of Lewisville and Irving, TX member Myles Gallemore to make it official.  Gallemore went even par over his last five holes to force a playoff that took six extra holes.  Sellers prevailed for his fifth win on tour and third on the year.  Gregory Stairs of Mansfield, TX carded three birdies on the day to round out the top three.

Sarazen Flight:   Two Dallas Tour visitors came into the heart of the Metroplex and forced the second of three playoffs on the day.  Houston Tour member Stacy Smith of Montgomery, TX went -2 on this last two holes to force extra holes with Daphne, AL member Douglas Key of the Louisiana Tour.  After finishing early, Key used his rest on the back deck to finish out with his second win in as many tries on the first hole of the playoff.  Joseph Roy of Rockwall, TX finished in the third spot for the second time this season, four strokes back.

Senior Sarazen Flight:   Dallas member Rick Allaire played the back nine in one over par, but needed more holes to finish after  Nicky Baugh of Alto, TX birdied his final two holes to force the third and final playoff.  On the first extra hole Baugh, made it three birdies in a row to win his fifth event on tour and first since the 2012 Redfied Golf & CC in Missouri.  Ken Benjamin of Grand Prairie and Mansfield, TX player John Cox shared the third place honors just one stroke back.

Jones Flight:  Dion Casto of Parker, TX went out in 6 over par to build enough cushion to win his third event on tour and second of the year.  Local Frisco, TX member Trecia Wood bested her 2012 T-3 finish at the Frisco Lakes event just three strokes back for the runner up spot.  First time player Steve Pearson of Plano, TX rounded out the top three two strokes back.

Senior Jones Flight:    Wylie, TX resident Mike Logsdon carded his second win on the season and fourth of his career.   Logsdon, recorded five pars over his last five holes to build a five stroke lead over Gordonville, TX player Keith Bruce.  A par on the final hole kept Bruce in the second place spot one stroke ahead of the pair of Ron Hardy of Lewisville, TX and Dallas member Lloyd C Reid Jr.

Snead Flight:  After six runner up finishes on tour and four on the season,  Mike Adcock of Saginaw, TX finally made it to the winners circle.  Adcock played his back nine in five over par with only one double to go with a birdie on his round to hold off first time player Jimmy Kim of McKinney by two strokes.  Long hitting Kim played the par fives in three over par to finish three strokes in front of fellow McKinney, TX player Larry Tolson finishing third for his third time on the year.
